Thank you jedi knight for posting that PROPER CSL up! I got excited when I saw the name of the thread!
The guy who posted the b+w pic of him and the ring taxi, please tell me she just past you before entering the Karrussel, rather than you trying to keep up with her?
B+W photo was Slarty Bartfast... not me.The guy who posted the b+w pic of him and the ring taxi, please tell me she just past you before entering the Karrussel, rather than you trying to keep up with her?
r.e. 'ring taxi , I passed it later on that lap... they're not that fast... since a crash a couple of years go, they're encourage to keep the time to about 8mins 30... but its fun to follow behind and wave to people as you go
I've not driven the 'ring in the dry this year yet, last year was regularly doing 7:40-7:50 type laps.
The EDO "Competition" cars are fun to chase down, too - certainly their 993 is fair game...
Watcha fellas, I am over here from the M Power forum but just wanted to say that I was at the ring for the first time a few weeks ago, ( I can see what all the fuss is about now, AWESOME place, deeply overawed ), and whilst doing a lap as a passenger in my pals Ultima we were overtaken by an uber fast CSL; Eisman exhaust, Cups, cage and it was a silver car with a German plate I think so maybe a local, certainly a ring regular. My mate M3Desmo has always raved about his CSL and seeing that car brings it home just what a tool these things can be in the hands of someone that can really drive them to the max, RESPECT
Ring taxis are generally told to keep it about 8:30 or so, as they're not there to go round as fast as possible, but to entertain their passengers.
To most people, on their first visit, or even if they're out on their annual pilgrimage, going round in 9 minutes is pedaling some... 8:30 seems really fast, and anything faster than that, is downright scary.
That said some of the drivers are quicker than others - some choose to drift, some choose to be more traditional in their technique.
Gaute, Steve Gill, Thorleif, myself and numerous other regulars will lap in circa 7:40 -> 7:50 fairly easily, so thus, its quite possible and fun to chase down the 'ring taxi and either show boat behind it, or over take
You can do the same with the Viper, though it doesn't like people overtaking in my experience - what you can do then is wave to the crowds at brunchen and so on.
At the end of the day though its not really about the lap times, no prizes, its just fun - and its much easier driving a 1400kg car, with just 1 mate as passenger, semi slicks, and 360bhp round than a 2000kg car with 3 paying passengers, and 500bhp.
My car is now a tripod anyway, new suspension rocks
Paint nice + shiny now too!
