I well aware the all things mechanical and electrical can and do fail,
Old new whatever, but the point is if it fails fix it promptly without fuss , end of.
No parts to repair isn’t acceptable, ok may a few days or a week even, but this’ll potentially make 5 months??
Which can’t ok in anyone’s world

I'm guessing the part is not used in any current cars, as otherwise there would be production delays making current cars.
So this is likely a part that has been superseeded in production and for what ever reason they can't get any more made to supply their parts dept.
My guess is that they changed supplier of the part when changing spec, and are now in a dispute with the parts manufacturer over ordering new supply, so manufacturer is not making any until dispute resolved.
Working for a good few years for UK companies that sourced major components from China I can confidently say the Chinese were ruthless relating to significantly reduced numbers of products ordered from their end-user customers and think nothing of shutting down an assembly line, disposing of machinery, laying-off workers all with zero concern relating to spares for UK warranty issues. And we have the annual disruption of thr annual Chinese holiday season coming-up early in the new year when workers travel back to their rural villages for 4 to 6 weeks

Strange mix of engines/components in Jaguars over the last few years - for me the only highlight vehicles that had any resemblance to earlier cars and tradition were the run-out XJ's and the Lincoln structured 'S' type, especially the diesel variant - beautiful elegant cars.........
Loved my X350, it was a cracking car. I sold it to a chap in Scotland who's spent £££££ on it making it perfect. He still sends me Christmas cards - with the car on! Edited by roscobbc on Thursday 21st November 14:04
Well the weather and the winter have all come together with my shoulder injury, looks like the Tranny will get properly back burned !
I guess it was inevitable really, so I’ll have to concentrate on the individual parts at work and small zone the shell,
when I can
I contacted an engine builder who was recommended to me and is located almost next to the Jaguar restoration company I used to work for!
Not had a reply as yet but it’s only been a few days,
Volvo have basically told us it’s our problem and to Sod off, if we want to pursue the claim for a refund we’re have to use the Ombudsman,
As far as Volvo are concerned they say theve let us use another car, so we’ve no reason to complain
and theve done all that’s possible given the situation with no replacement batteries, apparently this is due to the Swedish company Northvolt about to go bust !
So I guess we’ll have to see a solicitor and find out what our legal options are

If a item is sold and not fit for purpose i thought the seller is duty bound to give a full refund, this implies to second hand cars
as well but maybe for a shorter period than a equivalent new one,
Did wonder just how many other owners are having the same problem and that is why you are having such trouble
in getting a refund, giving one maybe two customers wanting their money back shouldn't be a problem to such a manufacturer but if
there is a lot banging on their door i can see why they are giving you such a hard time,
Good luck with the solicitor i'm sure he can sort it all out as it's so black and white they are in the wrong ,
The right to reject expires after 30 days from purchase,
As with everything it’s all bks ,
Promise the earth deliver nowt im afraid,
No one will talk to us it’s all done via corporate emails
We’re no one takes any responsibility etc
It’s been an eye opener for sure but not unexpected tbh
We obviously made a huge mistake by actually buying the turd instead of renting it like 95% of the other new cars on the road ,
Anyway it’s getting boring now so I’ll not mention it anymore,

I think this is the rub, and why customer service and the product has declined over the past few decades, manufacturers don't care now as most sales are fleet or lease, as part of the throw away society, so they are not making to last, they are making to last 3 years only max.Fleet or Lease vehicles seem to have their own issues too.
Scenario :- car user/employer leases/contract hires a vehicle for their employee. The contract, certainly for contract hire is a specific vehicle (as selected by user) with (or without) full maintence (so all servicing, tyres, road tax) - user just pays for fuel, oil, insurance and the monthly contact fee.
In the event of an accident the contract hire company (under the terms of the agreement) is obliged to provide a car for the user to user as close to the original spec' as the originally supplied vehicle.
User still has to pay the contracted monthly figure. It all goes skewiff if the hired car gets written-off following the accident, remembering the user still has to pay the agreed monthly contract figure.
The 'difficulties' as I see it come from two areas -
Is the temporary 'replacement' vehicle (which is usually a hire car) to the same spec' as the original?
Someone (your insurer or the other parties insurer) will end-up paying for your 'replacement' vehicle. These are generally sourced from specialist hire companies.....at significant costs.
In the event of your vehicle being a total write-off......a 'new' vehicle presumably has to be ordered (hopefully the model is still available).
This could easily be on a 6 to 8 month (or longer) lead time.
Are the insurers happy to continue with the costs of an expensive hire car for perhaps 6 months?
Are you as the contractee going to be happy using a potentially lower spec' car for 6 months or more?
Is the employer happy paying the monthly amount for a possibly 'lesser' vehicle?
Will the contract hirer look to recind the contract hire.lease agreement
I recall my 6 week old contract hire 1 Series BMW being almost totaled outside my house. The repair took 3 months and cost something like £11,500. The hire vehicle costs for 3 months were approx. £12,500.

Well it’s obvious my radiator support isn’t going to make my container now , and given I can’t get Jegs in the US to refund my money, I’ve had to let the order run till they finally become available,
Obviously another business using sharp practice!
Anyway won’t use them again for anything,
It’s just terrible and world wide!
So as I’m going to require lots of other parts I’ll have to utilise the container method again next year,
So I’ll get all my heavy stuff sent to Georgia and container it to the uk,
I did manage to clear my garage today so hopefully I’ll be able to get back into the car in a week or two
Plus my youngest daughter will be moving out soon so this will free up a vacant car space on the drive so casting an eye to see what’s available?
Still want a Europa to complete my little collection!

Definitely worth getting some advice Pete, solicitor or CAB. I can't recall the detail but there's something in whatever the Sale of Goods Act is called these days which says words to the effect that something has to be fit for purpose for a reasonable amount of time, so, in the case of a car, it should certainly last several years without needing major work or expenditure, and you should have some legal comeback based on that. Haha yeah we’re see?A brand new disposable vape might be a different kettle of fish but not a car.
We may decide to change direction once my misses retires, my daughter will be moving out in a couple of weeks,
My Jan retires next March so who knows what’ll happen from there,
Having lived with a new model car now for well over half the year we’re both of the same mind that there st !
Radar deciding when it’s safe to move, dash constantly beeping, more coloured lights than a Christmas tree
Yes they actually drive very nicely but the nanny state devices drive both of us crazy,
So I guess we’ll see about selling it and buying something from the previous decade,
In fact any thing that doesn’t have a infotainment system,
Even the word is crap, !
They are rubbish and dangerous to boot ,
One has to takes one eye of the road to do the simplest tasks, totall crap idea,
Is there anything about the modern world that’s actually an improvement?
Medical science I hear people say , except of course that’s it’s so over subscribed one can’t actually access it ?
Beam me up Scotty !

Went out in the laddo's 'daily' yesterday to go and sort something domestic. His 'fun' car is the '62 TBird with dual quads, cam, headers etc.....unfortunately laid-up for a few years now due to him having a family etc. His 'daily' is a 2005 Renault Magane Sport turbo'd something or other. He could probably do a salary sacrifice and get a poncy company vehicle (but chooses not to) - shares my intense dislike for car with hugh touchscreens and no actual 'hard' controls. Tesla's for me probably sum-up the very worst of the blandest interiors and minimalist dashboards - me, I'd really feel like smashing that friggin', huge screen to bits.....I hate anything that obstructs my field of forward vision.......even the old school tax disc holders..........
Thinking about it, we’ve more or less decided that come next April we will get shot of it ,It will be a year old and about 4000 miles
Assuming we actually get it back and it works!

Plenty of people out there prefer a very low mileage 12 month old vehicle - still plenty of warranty - all initial 'teething' issue are sorted - and price is lower than a new model.
Yep my thoughts exactly,It’s going to cost us but if it’s the only way ces’t la vie,
However if we ever do get it returned and it’s then all ok
Maybe we’re learn to live with it again?
We’ve already extended to warranty to five years and paid for 3 years serverising up front!
Which I guess would be another lump we’d loose,
Ironically everything we were trying to avoid had actually happened!
You couldn’t make it up !

Once returned to both of you - you'll have ample opportunity to get a longer term 'feel' of the car and see it you can't immobilise some of the nanny controls.....at least explore options to minimise the audio/visual impact when either of you are driving it.
Its built pre-Jult 24, so the nanny controls should be able to be switched off, although likely its something that will have to be done every time you start the car, which if its all buried deep in a screen menu becomes a right faff......which is of course deliberate to stop people turning it off. Some manufacturers (Volvo maybe have been one of them) were doing this before the July 24 cut-off date, so it maybe that you can't turn them off, as is now the case for many others. Its yet another reason new car sales are further declining this year.
Motorcycle dealers are struggling even more in past couple of years, there are posts on PH elsewhere, showing over a dozen dealers have closed in the south alone in the past 12 months (the south being below a line drawn along the M4 corridor from Bristol to London, and that's a mix of Harley, BMW, Triumph, Yamaha. Harley have seen the biggest hit, 5 dealers closed in that south area in past 12 months, 4 of them in the past 3 months!

I did read that some of the most annoying features can be deleted but only till the car is switched off,
Once in switched back on the car goes to default mode!
Which means scrolling through the pages and pages to find it every time the cars used
Utterly impossible to do in the real world of jump in and go etc
At least we’re banging some miles or the loaner ,
Which helps with the pain!
