Announced in mid-2023, South Australian motorists are required to obtain a U-class licence in order to drive ultra high-powered vehicles (UHPV), defined as having at least 276kW per tonne (1000kg) – with the new rules coming into effect on 1 December 2024.
I had to use look up what 276kw is in real numbers, as to me its utterly meaningless when referring to internal combustion engines.......

370hp per metric tonne.

As unlikely as it might seem........if our chavy labour goverment were to consider introducing something similar here.............mine would exceed that statutory Australian figure.

I wonder what they would do with older, possibly non-standard, vehicles though. Are they going to demand a dyno run alongside obtaining the new licence?

Very true.

I was out there back 2002, and I loved the place. I've got half a dozen friends who emigrated out there between the mid 90's and the mid 00's and all loved it, and all have now said that it's no longer the place they moved there for. Only one of them has talked about returning to UK, the rest will now just put up with it as the cost to return just makes that not a viable option. Its also got very expensive to live there.

Yes, I saw that. We all expected it after the ban at that Wiltshire MOD range.
Probably leaves just a handful of places in UK you can use one now. I was in my local sporting shop, and they said they won't take in any 6.5 Creed's now, as they will struggle to sell them on.
We just had our 200yrd McQueen's shoot at Bisley on Sunday cancelled by NRA due to wind speed forecast being beyond the target frame limits.....and this was re-scheduled from last month after it was cancelled last month by NRA due to the wind as well ranting

We’ve a shoot Sunday at Hythe , serial 1 300 mtrs
I’ve only a LR 22 so it’s looking like a waste of time again,
I’ll probably go and just have a natter for a couple of hours then come home !

I’m extremely concerned about buying anything at this point, as there’s no telling where is could theoretically go,
But I guess I’ll just get another 308/7.62 to tied me over
for the time being,

Well that’s another weekend with zero work done !
So much for getting the shell all in epoxy by years end !
Realistically looking at summer 2026 now,

My panels are inbound and weather permitting should be in the uk between Christmas and new year
Hopefully I can collect them early January and that means finding somewhere to store them ??
Still one major panel not coming though as it missed the deadline!

Haha
Yes I’m no techy either!
Can just about do the basics ,
What a day on the range today! Absolutely blowing a hooli
60mph gusts etc, but my fabulous CZLR done the business and made me look rather good!
You can almost hear the jaws hitting the floor when they realise it’s a 22 long rifle shooting subs !

.22 subs at 300 is quite something thumbup

Its looks quite bright though there.......its been dark, and very wet here all day in south Berks........as well as windy.

If NRA hadn't cancelled it would have been a very grim and nasty morning on Short Sib at Bisley for our McQueens. I likely would have not bothered to shoot, as the 85 year old scope on my K98k is not to be risked in wet weather.....and my eyes are not good enough now to shoot McQueens with the battle sights on my No.5 at 200yrds.

Can really relate to the age thing,
I’ll be approaching 70 before a get the tranny done and it scares me!

Because of the events that have occurred over the last couple of months it’s made me think maybe I need to change course a tad?
Think I may be to focused on the restoration and not my position?
I think I’m going to loosen up and whilst not cut corners but take a easier route in some jobs,
And this will save a day here and there and move things forward a bit more rapidly,
I’m definitely concerned regarding my body fitness and how it impacts what I’m currently doing,
I’ve a scan on Thursday this coming week so hopefully have a better idea of long term mobility in my right side,
So I’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out .

I did meet and old buddy today at the shoot who also is a restoration man, he’s 73 and still at it , although these days he just does the metal work, no filling or blocking so considerably easier on the skeleton!
But it did give me a little bit of encouragement!
lol

Had a few rounds through a Garand 30-06 side cocker,
I asked the owner just put half a clip in as I wanted to see and hear the jumping ping !
The old girl shot very well and the battle sights were also very nice,
Ok it was only 300 but with the wind etc I was happy just the see the target drop !!

Love that ping smile
Sadly never got to try one myself, although loading the buggers is a skill in itself to avoid earning 'Garand Thumb' smile

A mate of a mate who lives out in the sticks in Middleofnowheresville in the USA goes squirrel hunting with the Garand that used to belong to his grandfather (who was a D-Day vet) - for the sts and giggles, and because he can laugh
Can imagine there's a lot left of the squirrel after getting hit with a thirty naught six.

So mainly doing my front snorkel’s this week
There were all flat black behind the chromes
But on removing said chrome it was argent silver?
And yep they are supposed too be silver !
Which makes five painting operations!
And so tedious to mask up !

More tedious stuff !
Unfortunately this is the true view of restoration!

But everything done is a result and once final assembly takes place all these super clean and boxed and labelled parts will just fall into place ,

Weather permitting I’m hoping to get back on the shell Saturday and get the inside of the roof finished and in primer,
Soooo difficult this time of year doing this sort of thing,
But once that’s completed I may well just forget about the body till the spring,
So completely given up the idea of 2025 and moved to 2026,
