Hi Folks

I am new to this forum so please dont be gentle. I am thinking about getting a Rolex Datejust II but what concerns me is the lume. I like to be able to read the time on my watch during the night. Are there any owners here who can comment on the lume. The other watch I like is the Omega Aqua Terra. This appears to have much bigger lume plots and hands but my preferrence would be for the Rolex due to the magnified date (age is creeping along). I know there are many other watches out there but at the moment I have narrowed it down to these two. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Phil

Most modern Omegas resemble hockey puck due to their thickness caused by them using coaxial movements. I'd stick with Rolex. Lume on DJII is good enough, Arabic dial version is epic.

Good choice, baton indices are my fav too and they have generous lume applied to them. Rolex does lume really well.

Thanks for that. I heed your words on the Omega but it's still an option. I guess I should just stop faffing about and try them on.

Cheers

That's the only way. Whichever one you choose I'm sure you'll like either one.

Have you seen the newish Omega Globemaster? It's like a cross between the DJ and the Aquatera.

Thanks. Have just Googled that but i'm afraid i'm not keen on the face or the bezel. Each to their own as they say.

I've got that dial with the fluted bezel. It's a great watch, mine originally came with the black dial but I had it changed at service and the blue is much better - actually, let me say the dial is absolutely stunning! I personally would go for the white gold fluted bezel as it just jazzes things up, great reflections! But depends what you prefer.

As for night time visibility it is really, really good, one of the best I've seen - but that's what you get with Rolex, just a really great reliable & usable watch. Very nice. In fact I bought the female version for my fiancee too a couple of christmases ago as I thought it was so good! However as you can see from the pic, no lume on hers - that dial (or similar) I believe is an option, it also has really nice shading in the light but I'd go for the blue.

Side note: wish I hadn't sold that gold GMT, think prices have gone up near 50% since I sold it before Brexit! Plus it is a really nice watch, aw well.

To be honest my pic doesn't do it justice. In reality it's More like the pictures above.

I have a DJ2 with blue face with fluted bezel, the lume has always been bright enough for me. The sweep of the second hand is my favourite thing about it

Sorry for the old thread but thought I would give an update. Went to an AD the other day and had a look at the selection. I fell in love with this:

I couldnt decide between the explorer 2 and a Submariner (which wasnt in stock). On the way back home, with lots of humming and hawing, my wife said "Why not get both?". What a sensible lady! So I got the Exporer 2 and have stuck my name on the waiting list for a Sub. The problem is that I still like the dressier look of a Datejust but also love the look of a Sub. We shall see. Bloody first world problems! More importantly, the vacuum cleaner has just packed in.

That's really nice.

Your wife seems like a good 'un - but you can bet that she'll want something in return for you having two new watches!

Depending on the AD you visited, the waiting list varies. I'm on a "2-year-ish" list at one dealer, but Goldsmiths managed to source me a no date sub in a little over a week. Hope your vacuum cleaner isn't too expensive!
