It's a strange watch. I always fancied one then tried one on around 8 years ago and it felt huge. Reminded me a bit of my Breitling for Bentley I had about 20 odd years ago, was my taste at the time but was about as understated as some of Flava Flav's timepieces, I did end up buying the Deep-Sea though. Life's all about variety though, would be boring if we all liked the same thing. As mentioned before the diameter rather than the weight made can make this an uncomfortable wear. These days I tend to rotate between my 40mm Sub Date, 40mm Yacthmaster and 36mm day-date if i'm wearing cuffs.

I imagine the potential new owner of one of these will be spending most of his time breathing from a tank under fathoms of water and won't care what some dry-lander on the internet thinks.

Sounds like we have similar tastes, and if the fella above is considered the guru, it's god-awful taste biggrin

Definitely try one on, they are a BIG lump, and buy pre owned.
RRP is just shy of £13k these days and an as new current model watch is no more than £10k 'used' and they have been that for a while.
I was on the list at my AD for one, got the call after just less than 2 years wait but declined mainly because I've started to wear smaller watches.

They are pumped up oversized Benidorm bling favoured by knuckle draggers and turkey teeth exhibitors, so I have to question the character and aesthetic taste of anyone wanting to make this purchase. biggrin

As I said, this is a bling thing. I'm very satisfied with my 38 Steinhart ocean One which is a Submariner homage as a daily watch, it's perfect.

The Deep Sea is purely an itch scratch for a Rolex after recently inheriting a million quid and not wanting to be totally boring with the windfall, you only live once etc. It would be for high days and special occasions and I might wear it to work sometimes in a childish top trumps exercise in outgunning my young co-pilots with their large Brietlings and what not.

Plus I just think the Blue faced ones are beautiful.

No, they do nothing for me. My watch interest is pretty shallow to be honest. Don't like Breitlings either despite being a professional pilot. It's mostly just divers for me and mostly just Rolex hence my Steinhart Ocean One. I do really like lots of other Steinharts though.

If you’re looking for a nice diving/sports watch then Omega is worth considering. I’m a big fan of the 42mm Planet Ocean which is my current daily beater.

If it's for showing off, wanting a bit of bling, and rubbing in the face of colleagues to make sure they know you have more money than them... then there are many watches that are nicer the Deepsea, and also a lot more wearable. As others have said, it's a really big lump of a watch, and unless you are the size of a grizzly bear, you will certainly feel that heft on your wrist, struggle to put it under shirt cuffs, and so on.

I do like the Deepsea, so much so that I went and tried one on, only to feel a bit silly. It was huge.

I would be buying a GMT or Sub and enjoying wearing it daily/regularly as intended. It will be far more practical and wearable, better looking (IMO), and anyone who knows watches will see it as far more bling/flash/expensive than a Deepsea.

Rolex? Flex? £1m?

Got to be a Day Date for me... fluted/jubilee/grey dial *drool* it's show off and classy at the same time.

Anything with a cyclops lens is a dealbreaker for me, I just don't like the way they look, YMMV.

I agree, I'd take an Omega Ultra Deep over a Deepsea any day of the week.

Mine too, bought it for myself back in 2012 for my 40th birthday. Mines the previous model before they changed to ceramic bezel which was just being introduced at the time, but I preferred the outgoing model.

The JC DeepSea I'm waiting for will be for my retirement watch in a couple of years time, having skipped buying anything for my 50th. Personally I don't think it's a big watch at all, obviously its bigger than the rest of the Rolex line up but if your a big bloke then normal sized watches that look the correct size on smaller people can actually look and feel a bit small.

If all you care about is having an absolutely fking massive slab of metal on your wrist, then why not go the whole hog and buy the 50mm Rolex Deepsea Challenge?

Despite being a Rolex fanboy, I think the Omega is definitely the better looking watch.

My uniform shirts are all short sleeve and I only wear polo shirts at home.

Don't want to wear the watch daily as my home life is running a farm. The faint silliness of the Deepsea is the appeal.

Omega is nice but I'd always be thinking it's like sitting in a boxster at the lights with a 911 next to you. The boxster is likely better for less but you know,.
