Speaking to a friend of mine the other day (whose friend is a traffic officer) and he mentioned that central Herts traffic police have been asked to stop all cars on the road between 1am and 6am. He suspects it's quota-filling time as they've been told they can stop anybody regardless of how they're driving.

Might be b******s but better a heads-up to go check your lights/tyres etc etc than nothing. Don't want anyone getting done for a something easily avoidable now do we!

cheers for that, just had the tyres changed, it was going to go off for a service, but garage refused to drive the car, seems the tyre fitters reckoned it was at least 2 mm smile Had not really spotted the wear bars were close, but legal smile

It's rubbish, i'm always out around that time, in a dirty vx220 being driven more than quickly and i haven't been stopped yet.

I've noticed a definately increased presence after 1 am. I've been pulled however they didn't check tyres or anything, just had a chat, checked my license and went on their way. Was driving a knackered little hatchback, so fair do's I probably looked like a boy racer.

But then police have always been more vigilant after dark, so its nothing surprising really.
