I know Brian’s instructor and he doesn’t care for the silly stories at all
As in didn’t approve or didn’t believe them to be fact?
As in knowing they were untrue as they were not possible. Someone that flew the SE for 10 years and was an instructor would know

And they were an instructor at the same time or later or before his time. I’ve certainly worked with people in aviation that have said somethings not possible because they last flew that type 20 years ago.

He was Brian’s IP and head of StanEval at that time.

The touchdown speed was 165 knots plus fuel, so going slower couldn’t happen without the stick shaker and pusher being activated. The SR would stall tail first as the chines continued to generate lift, a stall would have been unrecoverable.

As for mach 3.5 over Libya, the warm air meant that often getting to mach 3 was difficult. Some pilots did see as high as m3.49 but that was in exceptionally cold air, typically around the Barents Sea.

The LA speed story was BS because SR crews didn’t speak with civilian controllers on open frequencies above FL600 and they couldn’t be tracked at those speeds anyway.

But people love to believe a good story, and he was very good at telling them.
