I was at the Doncaster Aviation museum , which is excellent I think, on Saturday, jokingly said to the volunteer on the gate that they have a vulcan sized gap outside.
He told me about his dealings with VTTS when VTTS started selling joint tickets to both places, then refused to pay them any money for months saying they were too busy to sort it!

And you'll find lots of similar stories to that.......its why their options are so few, they've burnt all their bridges in the aviation community, and ultimately why '558 is doomed as an airframe, even if by some miracle they manage to move it to some other location, it will likely only be a stay of execution, especially as it will no longer be a live airframe. He told me about his dealings with VTTS when VTTS started selling joint tickets to both places, then refused to pay them any money for months saying they were too busy to sort it!

Thanks for sharing. Sad days indeed
Was looking through old info and photo's of RIAT '83, which was the last RIAT at Greenham Common, and maybe the best RIAT I've ever been to......but, out of interest, the Vulcan that was parked on static display, was XH558 (still in its AAR tanker fit) and the Vulcan that took part in the air display, was XM597, the Vulcan that did the two Shrike missile raids during the Falklands War and had to divert into Rio on way back.

(pedant mode on) Wasn't it just IAT in those days (Pedant mode off)Agree though, it was a great airshow. We travelled up for a day from Swansea in an old Maxi.

An old Maxi? A former girlfriend of mine had a Maxi that had been registered on an 'A' prefix (1983) even though production had ended in 1981. This would have been in 1988/89 and it wasn't in bad shape at all then...Agree though, it was a great airshow. We travelled up for a day from Swansea in an old Maxi.
As this is the most recent Vulcan related post I thought it best to post this here rather than a new thread.
Thought it may be of interest to some, not seen any reference to the link in this section:-

Latest VTTS newsletter is out: https://vulcantothesky.org/news/february-update-fr...
TLDR summary:
No final decision on long-term home yet.
Partner selected for sympathetic breakdown/reassembly for a relocation by road transport.
Much of that may well be known by old hands on the thread, but a useful update for newbies to it.
Time is fast getting on for a June depature! Am genuinely interested on how long they think a tear-down will take.

The RAF did it in 5 weeks when they broke down the Vulcan for transport to the RAFM Hendon.......But, that was full resources and equipment of the Vulcan techs at Scampton along with RAF Crash n Smash, as the Vulcan was still in service at the time.....
I'd be astonished if VTTS can do the same thing in less than twice as long as the RAF took 40 years ago....and that's assuming they have access to one of the old RAF hangars at DSA to do it in, rather than outside!
I'm getting more convinced as time goes on that its not going to happen, despite all the VTTS waffle and BS in these press releases.

So what happens then? Will it sit as a rotting corpse on the side of a housing development, or just simply, unsympathetically cut up and scrapped?I'm getting more convinced as time goes on that its not going to happen, despite all the VTTS waffle and BS in these press releases.
Surely if the latter, it must get to provide spares for the others.
they'll still delusional and think it can be setup and maintained financially as a standalone exhibit.....

We are in discussion with the owners of two sites. Working with The National Heritage Lottery Fund we will ensure we that we deliver the best future we can for this important heritage asset, ultimately preserving her as the centerpiece of the new visitor attraction centre – The Vulcan Experience – where she will be able to inform, educate and inspire future generations of engineers.
thats worked so well up to now......andburg said:
my guess is that if they cant move it they end up having to give it to the landowner to pay for the ground rates. Then it gets scrapped and VTTS can claim they did everything and didnt scrap it.
At least that would finally mean an end to bloody VTTS.I wouldn't bet against, if Peel took ownership of if not moved off site by the deadline, they would keep it, and then put on display at the entrance of their new logistics hub and distribution centre that they want to build on the site. They might even name it Vulcan Park or something like that, which they know would really wind up VTTS

Or they might just take a JCB to it.

"sympathetic breakdown/reassembly" There will be more pipes and looms cut off than youve had hot dinners.
Yep.And I bet they'll still not give all the spares and bits they no longer need in a dead airframe, plus all the parts still held in store from its flying days to the 426 and 655 teams to help them keep their's live. (655 can't use the any of the engines of course being 301 powered) but a lot of other stuff could....despite all the help those other people gave VTTS...
