Every time I watch those videos I wish I had not worried about wearing glasses and applied to be a pilot. Unfortunately a combination of thinking pilots had to have 20/20 vision and a doctrine that university was the only step from school meant I never tried. What an awesome job - the freedom and speed and manouvability must be fantastic for anyone who likes an adrenaline rush.

Throttle/engine acceleration 'slam test'. It was done on the short R/W (36) at Lyneham hence the problem when he hit reheat. He was lucky not to pancake it into Bradenstoke!

Was lucky enough to be in the back seat of a Hawk for a slam test doing my work experience at Boscombe down years ago. XX343 I think, with the spin panel in it. I'm sure the ground crew were mostly doing it to show off, but I was quite happy with that.

I work with his grandaughter and it came up in conversation at a project celebration one night. Most of our colleagues thought she was making it up until I confirmed it was true.

Pretty sure we've had the Sea Stallion showing how not to do that before, but it seems like a good time for a repost

Linked from the F18 video, but I enjoyed Missionary Bush Pilot's flight here:

May have been mentioned before but anyone interested in naval aviation, and particularly F14 operations, should check out Ward Carroll's YouTube Channel.

Rare bit of footage, the De Havilland Comet R2 XK655 landing on the grass runway at the Strathallan Museum, and almost immediately breaking the starboard main landing gear.

XK655 today at the Sharjah Museum, UAE painted up in it's original BOAC scheme and G-AMXA code.

Still can't get the landings right.
