It comes from the same bloody barrel; it's just the cooler it goes through that's different.

I tend to go for normal Guinness, but that's a 20 odd year habit. I only drink extra cold when I think that the normal guinness will still be stale from sitting in the lines overnight.

I prefer Extra Cold. It's extra...refreshing; it enhances the reason I love Guinness, which is the smooth yet full-bodied taste.

I won't drink any Guinness if I'm the first person to order a pint that day, though, thankfully, that's a rare occurence.

chilled flatters the bartenderm so if i know they do good guinness i'll have normal. if it's suspect, or i haven't drank there before, then i'll have chilled.

Only drink it every now and again but extra cold for me . Just been to a friends wedding and i was amazed about the guinness i have there . It came in a can but after they had poured it in to the glass. They put it on this small stand thing it did something to the guinness. Then it looked like it came from a tap . drink

Guinness can surger? I thought they flopped in the UK and were withdrawn ages ago?

They recently got that system in the bar in Wootton Bassett village hall. I think the effect is largely cosmetic.

Bottled export strength Guinness. lick

Back in the 90's my then local Landlord served an excellent pint of Guinness, which was a good as I had in Ireland in 96.

He told us his secret was every time he was in the cellar he kicked the barrel.

I cant stand Extra Cold and it gives me stomach ache. My biggest beef ever with Guinness has been the extra cold. Since they introduced it many pubs appear to be serving their normal Guinness colder than it should so you are basically now getting cold or colder.

I think that set up is common where they might not get through much draught. Just order in a case or two of cans for the likes of a wedding reception.

Seems to take less time to pour a pint of extra cold, so I appreciate a shorter queue at the bar, especially if I'm going to see the rugby and everyone's drinking guinness.
This is the main reason Extra Cold was launched, quicker to pour, so pubs can serve more customers in less time.

I prefer regular Guinness, cool, but not cold, e.g. from a widget-can from my garage beer stock smile

It flopped in the off trade (home consumption) but in terms on the on trade it's in massive growth. I couldn't tell you how many are in the uk now but it is frightening. The idea is very simple, surger cans have no widget so it uses an electric pulse to 'surge' the glass and release the gas in the beer.

In terms of regular Guinness vs extra cold. Different parts of the country See different trends but extra cold is more popular now. There's only 2c difference.

I know all this as I work for them and my job is (amongst numerous other things) to taste test Guinness every day. -yes honestly!

Regular. Do doubt about it. It's usually the last thing I choose when I go out at the weekend though. The novelty of drinking it every day at work wears off quicker than you believe

I have a Guinness Surger unit at home and it's a really decent pint IMHO (for home poured). Works out to about £1.20 for a full pint.

When out and about I don't really mind whether it's cold or extra cold although I would say when it's ice-cold it isn't as tasty.
