€21.50 for a chicken burger and chips at a local beach bar (Scheveningen, NL), nice breaded chicken and fresh roll and salad, but too much BBQ sauce.
Sounds expensive, I would have gone for one of the many options on the pier.

We absolutely love scheveningen and the pier never disappoints.

We prefer Noordwijk just up the coast, a much more relaxed vibe.

They're all expensive these days, and we hadn't tried this one before (Aloha). There's a few decent food places on the pier but I quite like the outdoor or conservatory seating at the beach bars. Don't eat in them that often though unless they're on social deal as they are overpriced.

Agree Nordwijk (and Katwijk) are a lot quieter but it's an hours cycle away.

Patty and Bun - pretty good
32 quid for the food, with an ice cream sandwich not shown.. chicken was shared between 2
Which is not bad for Marylebone.

Rubbish picture but it's the smash burger style, so crispy edges

Had my annual 5 Guys today.

Cheese burger and a hot dog was just over £17.

It was dead too, about 3 or 4 people in the place and in the 15 min I was there only saw 2 people order.

We shared it and tbh I left feeling quite hungry. I was tempted to get a portion of fries but at £4.25 not a chance.

Excellent Blas couple weeks back i wont say how many i had as will get pilloried. Fries excellent as ever just about worth the cost overall despite a lot of emmets moans.

Almost famous Manchester GN last week, excellent and decent value burgers. The mac balls and chicken blasts (especially the marmite butter blasts) are to die for.

Had a trip to Wimpy the other day as fancied a quick bite on the way to golf. Just had their "Bacon and Cheese Express", which was just under £6 for the burger by itself. Bit more than the golden arches but was easily twice as nice - had proper bacon for a start.

Don't eat there a lot but make a point of stopping in once every so often - it's always remarkably busy, even when I try to go after lunch to avoid the queues.

Why do we not get stuff like this in the UK. Basically a double double whopper and it’s £10.50 for just the burger

Seeing the above reminds me of The Exchange Bar & Grill in Rickmansworth, just outside the station. In the 90's they used to do a 1lb burger, it came with mandatory toppings, like chili con carne....you had to finish the whole lot. It wasn't easy. Much more difficult later in life with 2-3 pints of lager.

We used to go for family birthdays which was good fun, then when we turned 18/19 we used to still go but this time on our own and a pit stop to the club next door to chat to 45 year old dears, all good fun, we all loved it.

£14.25, Alton Towers, apparently it was alright, I bought it for my daughter, she's no Jay Rayner when it comes to reviews.

I did that once with a bacon king with two extra patties. It was before COVID and the price inflation so was still reasonably priced. In all honesty is was just a bit too much with the extra patties, you'd bite into it and just get a thick mouthful of beef and grease without any textures or flavours in the middle to break it up.

I'll do it again when I win the lottery but probably with some onion rings in the middle or something.

This thread popped into my head last night when I paid £22 for this burger at a hotel in Newport

Now it’s a very good burger, but £22! They had chicken, venison or beef to choose from, all the same price, until recently it was £18 plus of course a service charge

Also had this one recently, which was £11.50 for a dobule smash patty and chilli, all be it more in a local restaurant setting

I’m just shocked by the cost of eating out now, went to miller and carter on Sunday as couldn’t be bothered to cook and their burger was also £21.50, I had a rump steak with chips, the onion loaf and the salad wedge for the same money, and the quality there is seriously down on what it was a few years back.

The double smash looks great

I think food prices for take away, delivery and restaurant eating are getting to the point where, for the average Joe, eating out is a seldom done thing. Much like it was when I was a kid. Have we just got used to be able to afford eating out whenever we want and the explosion of chain restaurants making access easier?

I recently took my little one for a treat to Five guys. In my head i thought about £30 tops for a double burger, a single burger a milkshake and a regular fries.

Came to just shy of £40 which was absolutely crazy and yes many places are pricing themselves out of the market.

Even an average Maccys meal is over £8 whilst burger king meals are easily over a tenner.

Way too much for what they are.

But they aren't, they are subject to the same business costs as everyone else. I am privvy to information which shows how miniscule McDs margins are. You can also look up fanchisee's accounts too. They are a huge machine of a business making the absolute slimmest of margins.
