Avoid at all costs? Really? Why?
Seeing as you asked...... soulless cheap piss warehouses. They are not pubs.
I'm not poor so low to average quality cheap generic big chain menus do not interest me.
I'm not afraid of human contact, quite enjoy it actually, so ordering through an app does not interest me.
Sub-optimal beer does not interest me.
Quite happy to pop in and take a s

I'll take your spoons experience & raise you......
Amazingly, the one in the centre of Bradford is actually quite nice. I accidentally found myself there a few weeks ago & was pleasantly surprised.
It is in the city park - which is basically a concrete pond with no grass to be seen, but the spoons itself was quite new & decent.
I can't believe I just admitted to Bradford Wetherspoons......

I've used Wetherspoons a few times if I'm in a bit of the UK and don't know much about local restaurants etc. There are some that seem a bit rough (usually reflecting the basic area) but the majority are usually very good. I'm not bothered about the price as long as the meal is what I wanted - I've never had a problem. The App is truly wonderful if you're on your own, but in a busy pub.
I can only assume that many anti-Wetherspooners are just a bit too snobby (and have probably never used one).

Pints of ale were £1.99 in the spoons I was drinking in yesterday. Bargain.
99p when I was in the midlands a few weeks ago.
People who are better off forget that £16 for a fish and chips (as it is in our local “posh country pub”) and £4.50 a pint means a meal out is not viable for poorer families. Wetherspoons addresses that market really well.
Nobody is knocking what they do. But if the price of a pint isn’t important to you then there’s not really a viable reason to go there over somewhere decent, with atmosphere and a bit of character/identity.
Otherwise we’d all holiday in Benedorm because it’s cheap, and it’s the same sun in the sky as somewhere more expensive..

People on here are hilarious snobs at times.
IME Wetherspoons holds a mirror up to the locale in which it is set. In nice towns they are very civilised, in rough areas they are like a Hogarth painting.
So if you think the whole chain is full of ghastly daytime drunks and wifebeaters, it's probably because you don't live in a nice area yourself.
Work a bit harder and you may be able to afford to move somewhere nice.
I wouldn't dream of setting foot in a Weatherspoons (I have in the past), not because I'm a snob, ut because Tim Martin is an absolute aIME Wetherspoons holds a mirror up to the locale in which it is set. In nice towns they are very civilised, in rough areas they are like a Hogarth painting.

I love Weatherspoons. My local is in a converted theatre with dummies in the upper seats.
The decor is fabulous.
If you really want to people watch, there is no better place to get a slice of life.
From the barfly locals to the new people it really is a Hogarth painting.
They do keep their ales well also. Better than tied pubs in my area.
I go to eat, drink and watch!

I'm not bothered by the price but like their range, speed of service and ability to stay seated and use the App.
When are other pubs going to join this century?
You haven't lived until you've stayed in a wetherspoons hotel. Walking down for breakfast in a wetherspoons bar is a grim feeling (not against a 'spoons breakfast on other occasions).
There are good pubs and bars. Cardiff for example has the Prince of Wales (converted theatre), the Gatekeeper (okay-ish) and the Central (grim).

To be fair.He is a cock.
But then so is Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and more importantly Boris Johnson.

Not impartial to stepping foot inside. However - whilst the drinks are much the same, the food is wildly different. I was waiting for a train recently and someone next to me ordered a “full English” to which he was told that was fine - but they were out of eggs, bacon and sausages at the time - what the f
k is left after that
Having said that I’ve had a few good breakfasts prior to trips out on nice yachts (Ocean Village) before heading to Cowes and was grateful I’d eaten anything by the time it got going!
