Nice lunch yesterday. They are stopping doing steaks after the 14th May.

I had forgotten that Wetherspoons does not allow dogs - other than guide dogs - in its pubs.
They have there upsides then as a non dog person who is a bit fed up of every cafe and pub becoming “dog friendly”

I've always enjoyed the mixed grill in my local one, shame it's going

Will have to get down for 1 in next couple of weeks before they're gone......If they're off the menu from the 14th May I'd imagine they'll be "out of stock" from early may

Dogs are a great conversation starter if you throw a pint in their face, according to Sean Lock... Normally starts with "whadidyoudothat for?"biggrin

You may have had lunch in wetherspoons, but it will have been a steak-free lunch.

I am afraid you now have to make do with a burger - other meat dishes are available.

I must admit the steak was my go to in 'Spoons.

I had the Katsu Chicken Curry this week and it was really good.

I hate brioche buns with a burger. They are too sweet and fall apart.

Not wishing to be judgemental, but, I wonder if part of it is because cooking steaks is too skillful for some of their kitchen staff.

Many steak buyers would want to pick rare/medium/well done/etc. and are more likely to send back something over/under done - leading to waste on one of the most expensive food item they offer.

Whereas you can't really mess up a burger, or boil in a bag curry etc.
I agree...

Can imagine "Big (insert monosyllabic names here)" types kicking up a fuss to impress others around the table. If their steak demands are not met, then "they are gonna know about it, as I paid good money for this". Wanting Michelin star restaurant accomodation at McDonalds prices.

And then an expensive steak is thrown in the bin, an item with very little profit on from what I can see in terms of menu prices.

Maybe they could just do it "medium", like it or lump it.

Probably. Chicken, pork, etc is just cooked to a specification/temp. Steak is more variable...

I worked at a Lloyds (posh spoons) as a student. Tbh the chefs could cook a steak to a standard better than the ingredients deserved.

Steak was the only thing that was main course that was fresh and didn’t arrive pre cooked.

Unfortunately not, but not much more. The 3 plates is £10/12 on its own, then the drink is separate.

That's an Alan Partridge sketch right there.

Wings are so cheap at the minute, it wouldn't surprise me if they were able to do 30 for a tenner.

Most supermarkets are doing fresh packs of 12-14x for £2 each. So I am guessing wholesale price is around a £1?

Makes for some good tasty eating and experimenting with different marinades etc.

On a side note, the share price of Wingstop fluctuates around the cost of chicken wings.

They are, but done properly you should be able to just 'suck' the meat off.

Probably best you don't start

The Wetherspoons ones are addictive.
