Decent red wine for a tenner? (better than Barossa Ink)
Discussion
Most of the Aldi selection from the posh shelf is decent enough. This is my go to at the moment.

Aldi have dropped their usual Christmas Amarone offering from £15 down to £9.99 - it's a 2018 release.
I had a bottle over the weekend and it was lovely - a bit young at this stage but highly drinkable nonetheless and well worth lying down for a few more years to allow its complexity to develop.
That's an utter bargain for Amarone, I've been back to buy a dozen to put down.
A quick search indicates it usually retails at £20 a bottle

I keep seeing ads for Majestic on Facebook, do I want to go and have a look? It’s a bit out the way compared to the supermarket but will I find some otherwise unavailable gems in there? I’m currently on a “guvnor” white we got for Christmas which is most pleasant and I think came from them which got me thinking.

We like (liked first even) the Guv'nor Red, and the Rosé too now.popegregory said:

The Mrs gets in there and returns a fine haul, probably a place it's easy to push the fiscal confines of the thread but they have stuff; my Mrs should post here actually as she's brill and I fail quite terribly at forin words even more than I butcher English.2gins said:
I'm chilling reds at the moment, they just need to get down to 15 ish do an hour in the fridge before game time
Our wine fridge is set to 13, and taking the reds out 40-60 minutes before you want to drink them feels just right, so I'd agree that 15 is probably a good target. In terms of suggestions for a tenner...found my local Waitrose has a very knowledgable vintner in there, and have over the last few years discovered:-
- Hedonist shiraz. £15 full price, usually discounted to £12, occasionally in their "fine wines for £10" offer, at which point it's an absolute steal. Fruity, smooth, not-too-peppery shiraz with a very decent finish. Was our Christmas day bottle for a couple of years, since supplanted by a stunning organic malbec but still one of my favourites.
- Zalze shiraz blend - £9 full price, the grenache and mourvedre soften it off beautifully, and while not the statement that the Hedonist is, it's an easy bottle to drink with most food.
- Kilkakoon - another shiraz blend, bit pricer (think £10-12 full-price), but worth the extra.
- Mud House pinot noir - surprisingly good medium-bodied NZ pinot for I think £10-12 full-price. Cheap pinot's tend to be too thin for my tastes, but this has enough character to it and the beautiful fruitiness you get.
...and for a cheaper shiraz, Porcupine Ridge used to be a bargain at £6, but the price has since gone up.
Lidl are selling this for £7.99

For the price this is worth a try IMO. Porta 6 is my go to when on offer but this is a better wine.https://www.bestofhungary.co.uk/products/bolyki-eg...

A nice well balanced wine that should appeal to most
