I love moules but it's hard to agree with your claims of unpretentiousness I'm afraid.

Is there an unpretentious shellfish? Maybe whelks, but in their case 'unpretentious' is shorthand for 'grim'.

I suppose it depends on what you then do with it. 70s style prawn cocktail probably fits here.

I bought Lidl 'cod burgers', not fully realising that they're essentially misshaped and over-marketed fish fingers.

The sweet chilli sauce was a mistake because I don't much like it, but tartare would have worked well (if I'd had any).

In a basket with chips then agreed.

Cockles are certainly unpretentious. As are crab-sticks......proper ones that don't contain crab hehe

Correct. Cockles are amazing and don't need to be delicately scattered around a plate of decorative salad to be enjoyed. They go in a small bowl or even stay in the bag/pot they were bought in, bit of a S&V and dig in. Cockle sandwich/roll is also very good.

I remember Mr Cockle selling seafood in pubs many years ago. Not whelks though, just no.

Lazy last night, even frozen mash (tea plate btw).

Cheese wrap. Is it possible to create a 4 item "meal" that has an even more limited colour pallete?

Recipe available upon request.

Brie. Pretentious
Mild uncoloured cheddar would be the unpretentious choice.

ETA: Would 'Alphabites' be considered pretentious on account of the presumption the consumer knows their alphabet?

Is that scrambled egg on the toast?
I’ve rendered houses with similar stuff.
Nice bacon though, I just might make some with hot ciabatta and buttered mushrooms.
