Having been to a fair few weddings recently the best arrangement for the entertainment by far; was a ceilidh, followed by a silent disco. The bride and groom had each made a playlist beforehand and you could flick between the channels if you didn't like the track. They had a sound restriction at the venue after 11 so had been forced down that route. Worked really well though - everyone was pretty boozy and singing/dancing along to different tracks in an otherwise silent barn. They had just rented the kit and by the end of the night some people where queuing their own choices.

It was fun, stood out and kept their costs down. Most wedding DJs have been much the same from my drunken memories. Bands work best when they play mainstream stuff. I'm a big fan of a ceilidh - works well at getting everyone on the dance floor across all generations and mixes people up. The band will talk everyone through it but realistically needs at least a handful of people who know what they are doing.

I can thoroughly recommend Groovy Revolution- seen then a few times now, years apart. They are from the Manchester area.

What I love about them is that they mash up different songs (different genres/eras) together, seamlessly. It means that you find yourself dancing away to songs you probably don't know/like. They don't take themselves too seriously, and it's all about everyone having a good time.
