I'm thinking about getting a new POLO but the VW website says delays in production of most of the cars because of part shortages. Anyone know what the lead times are now.

Thanks,

Just come off p[hone from my local dealer, same as you ordered a GTI delivery late September. Reef Blue with the 18 inch FARO wheels. Got dealer to add reversing camera as not standard now and a three year service plan and first MOT.

Gone with Red with Black roof/ 18" Wheels / Microfleece Interior / Keyless / Mobile Phone Prep / Drivers Assistance.

It has parking sensors so not bothering with the camera.

I think with something like 13% discount.

I was also going to ask this question.

I currently have a 2019 Polo GTi + that I keep in Europe for much of the year, but on U.K. plates.

Great for ‘big car’ munching miles, yet feeling (quite) good fun, well equipped and not a worry to leave at airports for several weeks.

Wanted to order a new ‘fully optioned’ 2022 GTi for delivery by April 2022 but was told the soonest availability would be week 26 - so July(ish), which is no good.

Are there not dealer ordered cars in the pipeline that can be re-spec’d slightly ?

I think even July now will be ambitious. IIRC the earliest cars are effectively June/July deliveries. I would suggest calling the larger dealer groups, Inchcape, Lookers for example and see if they have something on order.

I ordered early October and latest from the dealer is that it will go into build last week of Feb. Should be here early March, so about 6 months from ordering

That's promising. Much earlier than I understood. Maybe mine might be earlier.

Although mine is not a GTi which may or may not affect lead times.

Dealer has just told me that my order is starting factory build next week. However he says that they are spending much longer in the factory than normal and so it will be interesting to see how long the process takes from here.

I was thinking about one of these to replace my Hyundai I30N.

Need an auto this time round, as I'm waiting for an op on my left knee and current quote from NHS is 2+ years! So who knows how long it will really take!!
I can still manage a manual box, it's just a pain (literally) on longer journeys.

I wouldn't mind another I30N, but this time round with a DSG box. Problem is, they have jumped in price quite dramatically since I bought my current one some 2 years ago. Plus I would like a change anyway.

Still got 11 months on my current 3 year PCP to run. But looking at trade in figures, there appears more than enough equity in the car to clear the finance on the current car (got it for a good price when I bought it and paid a decent deposit on it as well).

Just starting to wonder (from reading this thread) quite when I'll need to start looking at ordering a new Polo Gti? I'd probably look at CARWOW to purchase anything new. As this is what I've used before and it's worked out well with the last three cars.

A couple of questions to anyone that can help:

1) If you set up finance on a PCP now and it takes several months to get a new build. Does the dealer honor the rates etc. being offered now?
It's just that everything else I've ever bought... has been available immediately (like the I30N, Focus ST etc.) or only takes few weeks to turn up.

2) I thought the new Polo GTI came with "climatic air con" as standard now?
It's just that the few on sale on Autotrader look to have manual air con. Which frankly looks like something I would expect to see in a 1980's Ford Escort!
And "yes" ... I am old enough to have owned one wink

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mike

Drive the Deal offering 13% off at present but you'll have to dispose of your car privately or WBAC etc.

I've not signed any paperwork so expect the finance will be the finance at the time of delivery. this might be different dealer to dealer as I know BMW do the paperwork up front. Note that lead time on a GTI is 9 months which may be the reason.

The pre LCI VW Polo had manual air con as standard, climate was an option. funny enough when we bought ours my wife insisted on climate so i had to trawl through 10s of examples and only consider the climate equipped ones. The new LCI has climate as standard but you won't see any on Autotrader yet.

From the VW Website - Standard Equipment shows:
`Air Care Climatronic` (2-zone) air conditioning system

This is correct regarding the climate. It is confusing as they continued to sell the ‘new’ polo alongside the ‘facelift’ polo for a while. It is the latter that has standard climate.

With regard to finance, I signed up and paid a deposit in October and this is the deal they are sticking to rather than at time of delivery. I am sure there is some small print that lets them change it for instance there is a price increase, but I would walk away if they did that as I don’t need the deal that badly.

As a benchmark, I got a 1k discount (on a non GTI) direct from dealer plus a very good trade in on my daughters current polo. I maybe could have got a bit more discount if I had gone through Drive the deal or similar, but the facelift had only been announced and the dealers hadn’t even seen them at the time. They were really good to deal with too and have kept me regularly updated so I am happy

Thanks for the replies guys.

Just put in my ideal car into CARWOW. Not fussed about color, so just selected the white (think it suit it anyway).

Extras:
- 18in wheels and tyres. Just don't like the stock 17in ones.
- Heated seats .... though I will miss not having a heated steering wheel.
- Reversing camera. Last several cars have had one and I think that I would miss it.

The VW PCP finance deal at the moment doesn't look too bad. Hence why the question about dealers sticking to what you sort out now (finance wise).

Couple more questions if I may:

1) When I select the optional 18in wheel and tyre combo, it de-select the optional space saver wheel. I'm assuming they are not compatible.
2) If I select the reversing camera, it appears to de-select the multi function camera. Any idea why? And what this multi function camera is?

Just awaiting offers from CARWOW now. Though it doesn't look like the discounts are going to be too big. The times we live in I suppose.

Thanks again.

PS. Just hope there are some VW dealers using CARWOW that don't involve too may hundreds of miles to get to.

I'm aware that Inchcape in Shrewsbury might have a Red with Black roof on way in FYI.

In terms of the options, you need to be aware that sometimes it is just an upgraded version of the same base option. for instance Nav is optionally a bigger screen but mentions speed limit display, whereas even the base system might have that.

PS - let us know what the %age discount looks like from CarWow - When I last tried it I had 3 offers of 0% frown

WOW... how times have changed!

Only TWO offers from CARWOW so far. Last couple of times that I've used them, the offers just flooded in (for previous cars that I've been looking at).

One was for a car coming in May. But wrong spec and 500 mile round trip to get it! £1,500 discount but this included the £750 from VW if taking their PCP (though you had to look closely to spot this!).

The second strangely enough, was from the dealer up in Ayr who I bought the I30N from. Initially only offering the £750 PCP contribution.
So I had a chat with them and they agreed to knock £500 quid off the retail price. Better than nothing I suppose.

The Ayr dealer had a black Polo GTI coming in May as well. But it's sadly the only color that I would never have again. I've had 2 black cars before and it drove me mad trying to keep them clean. Strangely I've not found white to be too bad a colour. It just tends to look a darker shade of white.

Both dealers said I was looking at around 8/9 months for a factory order. They seemed confident about this. But then again, who trusts a car dealer!

The Ayr dealer confirmed that if I ordered one and took the PCP finance, they would guarantee the price of the car and the PCP interest rate / deal (which isn't too bad for VW). So I've sent off some details of my current car and I'll see what they come back with. TBC

PS. Buying a new car used to be easy... certainly not now!!!

Yup Carwow have lost their USP biggrin

I've bought from Ayr before via DrivetheDeal wink. Was one hell of a roadtrip one Saturday morning in January! I even did a partex with them at the same time.

Just paid a £500 deposit on:

Polo GTI in white + 18in wheels, space saver wheel, heated seats and reversing camera.

So now the wait begins! Lets just hope that 8/9 months to delivery turns out to be reality.
Though I do have the best part of a year till my current car has to go back. So "surely" even VW should be able to deliver in 12 months!?

Now the good news. I could not believe the deal (I jest not). This has got to be the first time that I've not felt screwed over buying a car.

48 month PCP at £262.62 / month. Zero cash from me (whoopie) and £6k equity in the current car (supposedly). Got this in writing from them.

All fixed until the new car turns up.

It's the equity in my current car that has me amazed. And I did query this and he confirmed it's correct.
Settlement on current finance as of today is around £16,500. So if there's supposedly £6k equity in my current car. Then this seems to imply it's worth to them (at this point in time) approx £22.5k as a PX!!! I have checked a few valuation sites O/L and this does appear to around the right ball mark. But this is CRAZY, I only paid around £27k for it some 2 years ago.

He said this equity just gets "carried forward" (his words) till I pick the car up in hopefully 8/9 months time. He seemed to imply that my current monthly payments between now and delivery of the new car, would cancel out the depreciation. This seems to imply that he reckons that my I30N will still be worth the best part of £20K to them as a PX come November time! I find this hard to believe.

Hey... maybe I should just "not look a gift horse in the mouth".

We live in interesting times.
