1995

29 years old, these are the foundation stones.
I found this the other day on a Pete Tong Essential selection, that man must have seen it all.

he then went straight into this, Oasis by the Paragliders,

then, on my recording it went into John Peel, who always used to start with an electronic track,

and after JP's show it was Westwood, and then Danny Rampling for a 2am set !!!

I love alot of the early trance from the early to mid nineties. I think dance music from that period is among the greatest before everything became too rigidly genre defined.

I couldn't agree more! I was at the Clockwork Orange event on Saturday, and great sets from Slipmatt, Shades of Rhythm and Ratpack, all mostly from the period you mention. Not any trance though!

Now, that's a coincidence!

See, from 1998 to about 2002 it was all about Trance for me. Before that, it was all guitar-driven tunes, but for four years I didn't play the guitar and even sold a very nice Ibanez SA thinking that my musical taste had changed. Then in 2002 I discovered classical music, and I became hooked which also re-ignited my guitar playing. Anyway, the car radio was then hard-wired to ClassicFM and in 2012 - after that became a little too much "jolly hockeysticks" - I found BBC Radio 3.

Then, two weeks ago, I decided to sort out the racks of CD's we have into "his 'n hers' stuff with a view to some tunes for our trip to the Isle of Skye. It was an eye opener, to say the least.

I found a bootleg CD of an Oakenfold Essential Mix from 1999, and a Northern Exposure mix by Sasha & Digweed. Four CD's of quality Trance, and this week it is all I have listened to in the car. Radio 3 has been cancelled, and I'm looking at buying some Gatecrasher compilations and the Global Underground works of Oakenfold from New York and Oslo.

This is track #1 from "Expeditions" by Sasha & Digweed:-

This is the Oakey essential mix I mentioned:-

And whilst on the subject, how about this:-

Northern Exposure is one of my all time absolute faves.

Oakenfold did loads of Essential Mixes late 90s/2000s, should all be on Soundcloud. Check out Scott Bond and John 00 Fleming around same era. Quality stuff

I was trawling through Wikipedia, launching from the thread here about David Gilmour from Pink Floyd playing at the Albert Hall and eventually ended up at Man With No Name, who produced this classic:

It was re-released on Oakenfolds Planet Perfecto label a couple of years later.

A friend has that EP on vinyl. My favourite track from it is Blue, which Sasha and Digweed put on Northern Exposure 2. A bit low key for this thread mind

And whilst on the same subject, one of my all time faves from that album. The original is a bit fast so have purposefully shared the slowed down version from the mix

I know, not trance. Am about to make amends…

So, time for some trance before I get a kicking (again)

And one more. Can’t imagine how good this would sound in a club

Bit of an odd one that. Second half clearly showing the Darren Tate influence, but i find the first have a bit odd.

Whilst im sure the purists will say its cheesy/commercial, this ones quite an interesting blend of trance with a bit of synthwave. Something Robert Nickson seems quite good at too.

Anyway, works for me

Agreed, it's a slow burn that one but - for me - the second half flies
