LG OLED ultra HD tv
Discussion
If you watch much Freesat or Freeview, the Program Guide on LG TVs is awful - slow and buggy. I have a 2016 55" model but it's apparently no better on the latest ones according to AVForums .
I'm itching to upgrade as I really want eARC and 65". I'm tempted by the Sony range. They use LG-made OLED panels but have a much betted Android OS rather than LG's webOS.

Wait for the new Samsung QD-OLEDs - they're nearly here...

OLED-level blacks and colours but much higher brightness. Reviews say they're a game-changer.

What's your budget?
Sony is very good, and QD-OLED looks like it will be stunning, but both come at a cost. The LG TV's are very good and OLED with an HDR 4K image is just stunning (as you could see). Older models are good and can save a lot, the only thing to look out for is things like Disiny + not working on old screens.

I bought one of these when they were £1k, at the new price of less than £800 I’d say it’s good value.
I don’t know the full inner workings compared to other technology but UHD Sky sports, Amazon and Disney 4K is fantastic in my view

The Sony UI is pretty rubbish too - not laggy but pretty buggy. Regarding recording, Yes you can record on the Sony (A9) but that is VERY buggy and series link is far from reliable. Despite having 4 tuners (two terrestrial and two satellite) it can only record one thing at a time. I had hoped that I could dispense with my PVR, but no chance.I'm itching to upgrade as I really want eARC and 65". I'm tempted by the Sony range. All that said, the picture is stunning and the sound so good (not hi fi though) you might consider dispensing with a sound bar, so making the price more attractive.
To answer some of the questions above
Current TV is a Panasonic, happy but the LG picture knocked our socks off. Panasonic will be relegated to the spare room.
55" and £1k feels about right.
I'd like to be able to dispense with current PVR and sound base but not a deal breaker if I can't.

This will suit you then - £950 less £80 at check out

In my opinion for picture quality, nothing beats OLED screens.
However something to consider are dead pixels.
Have one on my 2 year old LG OLED (bright green pixel).
It’s not that noticeable unless you really look for it, and as I know it’s there I tend to do that a lot.
Still won’t put me off buying another OLED in the future though.

I bought LG OLED just before last Christmas, this one: Richer Sounds.
Not sure if it's the one you're referring to, but it's pretty good, apart from the OS as reported above. Happily, Sky-Q means I don't have to rely on it very often. Having said that, the apps for Youtube, Netflix, Prime, Disney +, etc are pretty good.

My LG OLED screen failed after 4 years "Green Haze" LG were basically not interested, £2K, 4 year old TV fked! LG says it is a known fault but the screen isn't covered under warranty. However something to consider are dead pixels.

So whilst LG do manufacture superb TV's, just make sure the model you choose does have a screen coverage on the warranty. As much as I like LG I would not buy another on principle.
Sony Bravia is now my new purchase, very pleased so far.

It's probably worth pointing out that there are two versions being linked here C Series and A Series. The A Series usually has the short legs whilst the C Series has the long flat base.
Tests show that the C Series has a better picture but I guess you would be very hard pressed to tell the difference in the real world. I also believe the internal speaker is much better on the C Series.

Do all the places offering 5 year warrantees as standard not cover this issue?
Had 6 year extended warranty with Richer Sounds but the screen isn't covered either with the 6 Year Extended warranty as the screen isn't covered by LG on their standard warranty. So No. what you need is something in writing on "any" warranty to say the screen is covered.
"DON'T JUST ASSUME" the screen is covered!

Funnily enough the base is important, I may just get away with a 'c' series, 'a' series is too wide, the b series base is the narrowest therefore (in terms of siting) perfect.Tests show that the C Series has a better picture but I guess you would be very hard pressed to tell the difference in the real world. Anyone know what the sound is like on the 'b' s?
We have the 65 inch C series.. really pleased with it. We use BT TV inc Sky Channels so not much need for the Freeview app. Everything else just works nicely out of the box and Netflix/Amazon/Disney/Apple TV/YouTube Apps are great PQ-wise. I also really like the LG O/S but maybe it's because I have got used to it now on the last few TV's I've had.
