Went to see Chris Difford last night - A highly enjoyable evening of stories and songs, just him a guy on a slide guitar.

To be honest, the stories were even better than the songs - He reminded me of the much lamented Sean Lock!

Lots of very funny stories about other bands and singers, often leading to a song.

Well, the missus wanted to go, and since I agreed, I can only conclude it's because I'm clearly getting old !!

The Hold Steady at The Electric Ballroom on Sat 11th March as part of their Weekender 2023 shows.

I'm going with some mates and meeting a chap I randomly bumped into on the Friday at Glastonbury 2022 because we were both wearing THS t-shirts, got chatting and stayed in touch. It's great when a shared love of a band brings people together like that.

Got Christine and the Queens tickets at the 6 Music Festival. I went to see Roisin at the last on just before the pandemic, so this will be a return to normality. Any hotel recommendations welcomed for central Manchester.

Went to Gojira in Manchester last night and they were incredible! Totally blew me away! It was the first time I'd seen them and it won't be the last. Big props to Alien Weaponry as well. I'd not heard of them until I saw they were supporting Gojira. They were ace as well!

2023 so far:

Life of Agony - February - Asylum, Birmingham. It was an incredible gig! Madball were superb. LoA killed it with River Runs Red in full and a few other songs. Great small venue as well. Never been there before, but will be going again soon.

Gojira - February - Victoria Warehouse, Manchester. As above, brilliant!

To come:

Devin Townsend - April - KK's Steel Mill, Wolverhampton
Corrosion of Conformity - May - KK's Steel Mill, Wolverhampton
Carcass - June - Asylum, Birmingham - can't wait! Not seen Carcass since the 1990s!
Iron Maiden - July - NIA, Birmingham

Looking forward to all of them! Might do Damnation again this year, but waiting for a few more bands to be announced. Don't really know any of the current line up.

Saw Madball at New Cross a couple of days after their LOA show in London - one of my favourite bands & a great show, as ever. Ironed Out in support cool as well.

Saw Gojira at Alexandra Palace last night, fantastic performance live, first time I'd seen them and amazing atmosphere in the crowd.

I've seen them a few times, but not for a long while. I thought Freddy might have slowed down a bit now, but he still can't stand still! biggrin

Feeling a bit bored earlier and need of a February cheer up, so I browsed my local venue's upcoming gigs.

No-one I recognised that I fancied seeing, so I searched a couple of the unknown acts on YT - As a result I'm off to see PVA in a couple of weeks.

First impressions are they sound a bit like a harder-edged Confidence Man (they and their fans may hate that comparison, apologies if you fall into either category).

How far wrong can you go for £10?

He didn't stop at New Cross either (although as the stage is tiny there's wasn't far to go) - he said that they didn't need days off, hence playing a couple of shows during that wider LOA tour.

Their back in Europe next week for a while on the Persistence Tour - which annoyingly isn't coming to England.

Long story, but ended up at Ed Sheeran show last night, just us and 86,000 close friends in a football stadium…

Music all seemed a bit bland to me, not really my thing - I recognised one song in the whole show - but he has energy and gave what he could for 2 hours. Not really stadium stuff though.

I've recently booked a couple.

Iggy Pop, Blondie and Generation Sex (Generation X crossed with the Sex Pistols) in Crystal Palace in July. I've no idea what to expect but, worst case, it's a good day out with the lads.

Before that it's The Big Moon in the Roundhouse. All girl indie band that I stumbled across on Jools Holland. Going with my teenage daughter and wife. Daughter v excited. I love the venue and they look like a great live band.
