This was my Friday night:

Nice. Did you enjoy it? A good mix of songs from all three I presume? Norman is one of my favourite songwriters. If I can make it work with the dates I’m tempted to sort a ticket for one of the remaining shows.

I did, thankyou.

I booked it solely because of James Grant, I didn't know who the other two were. It was indeed a mixture of all three's songs, I'd say more of Norman Blake's (from what they said), and not that many James Grant songs (only one from Love & Money for example).

The show was hilarious, some of the comments they were making had me in fits. Is Norman Blake really like that ? Sort of bumbling around, babbling on and being told to get on with it and stop whittering on by the other two?

I almost went the second night as well (because you could still get a ticket for Saturday as well (they were playing at the same venue in Liverpool both Friday & Saturday night)), but I didn't in the end.

Cheers for the reply. Norman loves telling a story and does go off on a tangent sometimes, though I’ve seen this in interviews more than during live shows. Shame about the lack of Love and Money songs, but other than that I think you’ve convinced me.

They played a festival in Lux last Summer, and they were really good live.

Tickets booked for the Bury St Edmunds show.

For those wondering, it’s James Grant (Love & Money), Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub) and Bernard Butler (Suede / McAlmont & Butler), by the way.

Very good !

Once you have been, we'll have to see if they said the same couple of jokes that set me off !

Off to see Bullet For My Valentine, Atreyu & Jinjer this weekend in Glasgow. Can't wait!

Saw BFMV years back supporting guns n roses in I think 2006? Always been a huge fan. Always wanted to catch Atreyu, too. Never really listened to Jinjer but meant to be good!

I'm just back from seeing PVA in Guildford.

Not really sure how to define them, but I enjoyed them, loads of energy.

Acid House? Disco/Punk? Electro/Heavy Metal? I've seen them all used to describe them!

I have booked tickets to see Guns' Roses in Abu Dhabi on June 1st. This will be my third time seeing them (Wembley on their Use Your Illusion tour and Abu Dhabi on their Chinese Democracy tour).

The Hold Steady at The Electric Ballroom tomorrow night, second of their London Weekender gigs.

I went along to a Rough Trade East in-store gig on Wednesday night, pretty cool set up. I had to chuckle, being a middle aged man, the audience was probably 95% other middle aged blokes!

I guess they just appeal to our demographic.

I saw the Hold Steady three times between Boys and Girls in America and Heaven is Whenever, excellent live band.

Slowthai is touring in Sept, looking forward to that. His live shows look like carnage.

As a Glenn Tilbrook/Squeeze fan I'm off to see him with King King next week. Anyone with experience of King King here? Seen a few clips on Youtube and am looking forward.

Butler, Blake & Grant at The Apex, Bury St Edmunds. It was brilliant night for a middle-aged music fan. Great songs, good chat in between and all done by 10pm.

I went to The Hold Steady at the Electric Ballroom in Camden on Saturday and whilst the band were great it was so rammed it was really uncomfortable.

Given that I'm a tall bloke and I like a beer I normally hang out at the back of venues near the bar, I've been to the EB many times and there is generally a bit of 'breathing space' near the bar where you can walk between a thinner part of the crowd and the bar/bogs. Saturday was absolutely packed to the gunwales, had to barge past everyone, not really pleasant.

My theory having been to a lot of UK venues pre/post Covid is that nowadays many places seems to be ramming the punters in to maximise returns, I'd be interested to know if any of them have toyed with capacity, recent Brixton Academy issues noted.

Some of my mates went to Bullet For My Valentine the same night up the road at the Roundhouse and from some photos I could see they posted online it wasn't anywhere near as rammed, despite being sold out. I think the Roundhouse, being that much bigger, is able to manage numbers better so they put on a profitable show without it being like sardines!

What are others experiencing elsewhere? Is it a change since the pandemic? Or am I just getting old?! hehe
