Maiden in July for me in Brum. Joined the FC and managed to get decent pre sale tickets.

Noted Def Leppard/Crue had announced a tour and booked VIP at Lytham for that. Strangely mine were Release 1 tickets and not possible to buy any now (Says available from 25th October), so not sure if I was just lucky picking up tickets released before headliner announced or what.
Just got tickets for the Def Leppard/Motley Crew at Lytham, only 5miles away so would be daft not to go. Not seem either live, although I did have tickets to see Motley Crew back in '87 at the NEC and they cancelled a couple of days before with some excuse about the roof not being strong enough to take the weight of their equipment.

I've really gone off gigs due to the price. Quite liked the idea of Blink 182 but at £150+ they can get to fk. When you add fuel etc it becomes a £500 night out.

I have however today booked tickets for Black Veil Brides at Southampton guildhall in Feb, which were a respectable £30, and I live locally so I'm pretty happy with that. I'm going on my own but I don't mind, I'm there for the music.

Royksopp at the 02 Academy Brixton in Feb next year.

Their only date in the UK and first UK gig since 2009.

SO EXCITED!

I only now go to small venues or I shell out for VIP. I'm not paying £100 to sit at the back but for a band I like I'd pay 2-300 to be at the front.

I was going to treat the wife to Take That VIP but we are talking £800 and then hotel on top. I nearly bought them then realised Def Leppard are on the Sunday and that means trekking back on Sunday to then drive up to Blackpool and too much in one weekend.

Edited to say - Def Leppard at Wembley and Take That at Hyde Park on the 1st July means trains and hotel rooms will be a nightmare.

Having slagged the transmit festival for it's st line up over the years, I'm contemplating going next year for Pulp.

The last time I went to a big open air show in Glasgow (Kendrick Lamar at Bellahouston a few years ago) kids kept asking me if I was selling drugs so I look forward to that happening again laugh

I was quite excited at the idea of seeing Pulp, but none of the venues hold any appeal, so I'll not be going.

Booked for The Hold Steady at The Electric Ballroom, Camden, next March.

Little known but absolutely sensational band. I don't gig much these days with expensive teenagers to run and the cost of living going through the roof, so I've pretty much self-vetoed any gig spending, but I can't resist a Hold Steady gig. Life's too short.

Would dearly love to get to the Elton John and Billy Joel gigs in the UK next year, but blimey. The prices, boss. The prices.

I saw the Hold Steady a couple of times before covid, a tremendous live band. Not that big on their more recent albums though so I don't know if I'd go again.

Interesting. I see what you're saying about the more recent albums, but the singles off them I think are some of their best tracks - particularly Heavy Covenant. That's one of my favourite rock tracks of all time I think. It's an absolute belter.

I saw them for the first time in March this year, and most of the material they played was their early stuff, from the pre-2010 albums. Was a great gig and I can't wait to do it all again.

I'm sure they're still tremendous live. I think my issue with the newer albums is that Boys and Girls in America is an almost perfect album and it was always going to be hard to top it.

In other gig news Motley Crue and Def Leppard are playing hampden next year, it would be rude not to go as it's basically at the end of my street. Don't really care for Def Leppard but all my teenage hedonism was based on Nikki Sixx.

I would certainly go to that, even though I'm not really that big on Leppard (despite having been a metaller in the 80s), if it was at the end of my street. I've done similar as Reading Festival is at the end of my street!

I think you're probably right on the newer Hold Steady material as albums, but they've managed to match their earlier stuff with a couple of the tracks IMHO, and those are the ones they pull out at the shows it seems, so all good for me. Boys and Girls is indeed their meisterwerk. I was fearful of similar from Shed Seven when they released a new album a few years back, what with A Maximum High being, for me the album of the 90s. But the new album blew me away and if anything it's even better than their original material. Shame they're not touring this year but they've recently said they're going to announce something big for next summer, so I'm all ears for that.

would love to see Billy Joel in Hyde Park in July but hotel prices have rocketed so looking for somewhere O/S London and just travel in for the night.

Although we are in Oyster Bay next May so will probably bump into him there......... music

Reading would be a good place to look, easy to get to Paddington from Hyde Park, and trains all night. Some fast ones can get you there in 25 minutes. There's a big Ibis in the town centre near the station, and a Crowne Plaza in walking distance also.

Enjoy the show, wish I could join you. Saw him at Wembley a few years back, first and only time so far for me. he still has it in spades, the voice is still there. I had been planning to treat me and the wife to go and see him in New York for our 50th birthdays in 2020, but a certain pandemic put the kybosh on that. Am saving furiously to do that in the not too distant future, hence regretfully restraining myself from the Hyde Park gig.

Ah great news, sorry I thought you meant earlier that the hotels in Reading were all sold out!

There's always Twickets though, if I'm feeling flush next summer I might keep my eye out for a ticket on there.
