I can't do the youtube thing at work either - I look forward to seeing your choices at home later.

Try 'I ain't scared of lightning' by Tom McRae. Short, simple and beautifully to the point. Shivers down the spine stuff.

Your Song.

The Elton John version. Ellie Goulding's version is on the radio right now. And I can see why she had to fk every music journalist in the country.

yup, one of my faves of all time,
Yep, from this album;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Itll-End-In-Tears/dp/B001M...

I used to have the 7" in the 80's, I took the bus to Birmingham to get it, after listening to it on the John Peel show a few nights before.

Can't get to YouTube at work, but if no-one has mentioned "Who Knows Where the Time Goes" by Sandy Denny/Fairport Convention then you really need to check it out.
I was going to suggest Take away the load by Sandy Denny, and her interpretation of Bruton Town

also

This woman's work - Kate Bush
Dimming of the day - Richard & Linda Thompson

My choice when I saw the title. Just the best version. You can hear her opening her opening her mouth to sing...!
Amazing, brings hairs up on the back of my neck when I hear it.

First track I thought of on seeing thread title. Have this (& their other stuff) on vinyl 12", with that spooky house on the cover. Can't listen to it without crying.

Along with Lamb - Gabriel I sob everytime I hear this. Is my youngest sons name too and he really is so angelic.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32Cj5eUmK1M&fea...

And Sia - Breathe Me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSPAargq4LI&fea...

Also used in the final closing scenes of Six Feet Under.

And many classical pieces too. Other than Barber as mentioned already, I had a musician friend help me create a music box for Johnny with Debussey - Clare De Lune

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlvUepMa31o&fea...

And Carl Orff - Musica Poetica

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGJb2Q14z4g&fea...

Not only because of the xylophone but also the link to the Starkweather/Fugate killings portrayed in the film Badlands.

All of these, without fail, make me cry. My son has just told me to 'Stop Mum. Just turn it off' and passed me a tissue.

And then those eerie scores from the Konami games including Akira Yamaoka - Music Box (featured in Silent Hill 2
