I’d have to check the rules, but my understanding is it was brought in to allow period specification cars to run in the correct catagory. Bearing in mind the Catogories are set up for Escorts initially, ie pre escort, Mk1, then Mk2, then after the Mk2, now some arbitrary date.
Obviously some cars overlapped the dates and ended up in different categories, based on year of manufacture not spec.
I would expect it would be allowable to create a period spec 205 GTi from a later non period car.

It wouldn't be cheap to change to spec of a later car car to an early 205 GTI. The engine is different, the dash is different and the rear hatch spoiler is different at the very least. I can't imagine the bits would be easy to get hold of these days. Back in the day people upgraded early cars to later spec, nicer looking dash and rear spoiler and a better engine (115 bhp v 105), the latter especially important if you were running group N back then.

I ran in the Peugeot challenge in 1989 in a 1.9 GTi and in the supercup the year after.

Already got a load of targas in the calendar for this year, NESCRO rounds, and two local non nescro rounds, clubbie autotests once a month on a sunday, and a few mid week autotests.

Junior is navigating on the targas and might even have a go driving on one later in the year. We dual drive a car on the autotests, usually finishing with a few seconds of each other.

Will probably organise an Autotest taster/practice day again in April.

I ilkley targa entry in and accepted, we did it last year and thought it was really good, plus it's reasonably local to us so pretty hassle free.

Promised the gf (nav) that we will have a day in Harrogate the Saturday before so it's not all plain sailing!

Do you mean the Ilkley Jubilee that runs in April, an HRCR round with a separate run?

The Ilkley targa runs in June.

Ryemoor Trophy Rally tonight, my ride isn’t ready, so had to pull the entry. Will be out Marshalling instead.
Next week I’ve got a last minute ride on the Carpetbagger, an event which is widely regarded as one of the toughest and best road rallies in the country. Going to be a hell of a weekend to get down from Yorkshire, a full night in the lanes of Somerset and Devon, then back up North again. Last time I tried it on the Tour of Wessex, we got two miles in to the event the gearbox failed and we went home again!. Hope it goes better this time.
My driver has an even longer trip, he’s coming down from Elgin!.

What do the regulars on this thread think to starting a new one for 2019?

Don't want to tread on any toes but I think it needs doing.

The Ryemoor was a toughie, very few crews without fails.

Can start a new one, or the mods remove/change the year in the current. Whatever easiest for everyone

Entry in for my first Targa Rally of 2019 - Farnborough & DMC's Bramley Targa (17th March).

Its was a cold one last year, when I marshalled. Looking forward to some skids.

Hope you have a good set of winter tyres on! We used to use lassa winters for road rallys with good results. Hope the 2019 season goes well for you Duncan.

I have some chunky winters but they are too chunky for the venue. So lots of skids and slides are in order.

See you in Tobermory mid October!

Can only the OP request a thread title change?

Looks like the white heather tests are not going to run this year, often our first event.

Never mind not exactly short of events to do this year and getting more involved in organisation.

Probably best leaving this as it is now.
There is a 2019 one going, so it will just confuse.
