I posted a topic about the F1 here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Suppose following on from that about hotels etc. Anyone have advice for the F1 weekend? Also anyone tried the grandstands, and recommendations?

As I'm with work, I'll be taken out by them etc, but would be interested if people had other suggestions to do?

OK - there is a 30% government tax surcharge on all hotels for F1 weekend & (i believe) most hotels will only take whole weekend bookings (i.e. 3 nights) so you will have to head a bit further out of central (maybe) ...

If you actually want to have specifically track side grandstand seats, then start / finish, turn 1 and turn 2 are the best options.

If you are after a bit of trackside action and just the general atmosphere of the event, then go for a walking pass or something around Padang.

Marina bay grandstand looks great .... you will cook ... like a chicken in an oven.

If you want to gamble some last minute tickets, can usually get stuff on Carousell but they will be cover value or a little more, usually meet people at an MRT station (carnation in your lapel, copy of Straits Times under your arm) and exchange F2F for cash.

Back to Hotels, try somewhere like the Novotel in Clarke Quay.

Be warned, Hotel 81 and Fragrance Hotel chains are mostly "rooms by the hour", so don't be surprised if your neighbour seems busy and the carpet is a bit sticky .......

edit - whats your budget / night for hotel, i can have a look on bookings and see what looks good in that range or class. (remember that generally hotels in Singapore generally start at GBP150 / night after taxes etc )

haha no worries, .... general rule of thumb, getting between JB and Woodlands is a ball-ache at the best of times!

also not sure what the charges are for foot / bus traffic, but its something like $20 each crossing nowadays with all the tolls and charges on both sides
