Oh no, I've just sent £20,000 for a new mains lead, £30,000 on speaker cables, and £500 on Loudspeacer ground spikes, and still my HI-Fi isn't functioning as good as it could!! Looks as if I've got to spend £16,000 to remove the crud from my electric supply now. I'll read this review first, then I'll be well-informed about what I'm missing. https://www.theaudiobeat.com/equipment/entreq.htmTEKNOPUG said:

Meanwhile, getting firmly back on Terra Firma. Just been re-reading High Performance Loudspeakers by Martin Colloms, founder of Monitor Audio. Less than £10 on eBay. When you've finished reading it, with then some knowledge of the inadequacies of loudspeakers, you'll realise that they are about 1000 times more effective in screwing up your Hi-Fi sound than the rest of your system, bar the room you are in.

Monitor Audio was founded by Mo Iqbal, not Martin Colloms.Martin has, however, acted in an advisory capacity to quite a few loudspeaker companies over the years.

A very good speaker will have 1% THD, whereas a good amplifier 0.001% and a good DAC less than that, uncompressed digital content storage and playback and transmission similar. Most decent amps will drive all speakers at sensible levels, so spend your money on decent speakers. Use you own judgement on what decent speakers are. Big spending is no guarantee of goodness.
Having listened to speakers all the way up to $200k price level, I can say the quality/cost really levels out a long way below that.

By the way, I agree in the speakers front. My floorstanders are out of action (they are decent, but a midrange driver needs replacing and getting the part is proving a nightmare - buying British, next time!).
So I have my not too bad PMCs connected to everything, including the sub.
Night and day. Room filling, nuanced and rich sound is no more, and the clinical nature of my digital amp is very much revealed.
I have played by swapping my amps. It's the speakers. They seem to be the single most important thing in my system.

That's an interesting video.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cD7YFUYLpDc
As I understand it - it's oversampling that smoothes the stair steps.
Here's a screenshot of my 'scope - one channel is an oversampling DAC, the other is a non oversampling DAC.
The stair step effect is clearly visible with the non oversampling DAC.
