Speaker switch - remote control
Discussion
I remember when I refurbed home, searching for a remote controlled speaker selector. Needed to be able to squirt the output from a central amp into various rooms. I could not find a suitable remote control one so ended up with this.
Works, fine but manual.....
A decade later I'm having a house built, same audio issue!
Yes I know about Sonos, but I still fancy some good old fashioned cabled speakers, I thought in today's world of Internet of Things a wifi / app controlled speaker switch would exist, can't seem to find one.
Please prove me wrong!

Plenty of ways to do it, but they are going to be way more expensive than your 10 year old switch but with the benefit of being able to have music in more than one room at once and with indepentant volume control.
Either way (old school switch, or 2017 multiroom) wiring is all back to single point
Is there a budget?

The challenge isn't the hardware or amplification it is the source switching and possibly individual volume control.
This is where you end up with a traditional multi-room solution with either a remote control, keypad or app for control.
An alternative idea several of us have been tinkering with on here is the use of Gramofon or Google ChromeCasts as a cheap music source with streaming music capabilities and volume control, then individual devices feed channel amps.
On my costing it works out to be about 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of a Sonos based solution .
Hope that makes sense.
