I cannot wait to ditch sky at the end of Jan.

We live in a world where now netflix and Disney+ are launching cheaper tiers with adverts yet sky think they can:

1. serve 16 minutes of adverts per hour (now pretty much synchronised across all channels so you can't even channel hop)

2. Targeted adverts (AdSense anyone?)

3. Sell your marketing data

4. Charge for HD

5. Charge of UHD

6. Charge for multiroom

7. Limit skyQ box WiFi to 2.4GHz unless you have sky broadband.

AND charge the prices they do?

Na, I'm out.

I know netflix charge for HD etc now, but I understand that was to allow cheaper tiers, sky have always charged. Who is getting sky Q and not getting HD at least?

And let's not forget the issues with sky Q Mini box hibernating then taking ages to connect to the main fox, that's when activation doesn't fail

Chromecast with a few choice apps are the replacement.

The whole concept of a puck is a joke, an app will do just the same. I guess it helps justify the price.

£39.99 setup fee for the puck that you setup yourself? They're taking the p**s at this stage.

Exactly, I have no (well not many) issues with adverts on terrestrial TV.

I also read that with glass/puck that if you record something and then the license agreement ends then that's it, no option to view, at least with sky Q you can keep things that you record indefinitely. I guess this is what they want, control of your content. iPlayer as an example - you record top gear or songs of praise then after 30 days it goes to britbox so you can pay for it again. On Q you would still have it to watch, with puck you won't.

I also read that certain channels that you get on sky Q, you cannot get on the puck.

There are many, have a look at the Sky Community posts in the Glass forum.

Some are limitations of the TV, such as no DNLA streaming, poor integration with external audio equipment. Some are issues with the streaming service itself, common technical faults on channels, loss of signal completely so no channel works, sync issues with audio and video.

I'm on Fibre broadband with a hardwired TV and it goes up and down with issues as the firmware changes. Those running on wifi have had it the worst and I think over time Sky will have to build in more data such as signal checkers and speed checkers to their software itself.

Cheers, sounds like a right ball-ache. No doubt will be the same issues with the pucks.

I've only just re-stabilised my Q-mini system by temporarily hardwiring the Q box into a wifi extender. We're mid-refurb so everything is awry at the moment.

You can't record anything on the puck. It's a streaming device. The clue is in the name. All you are doing is adding programmes to a watch list. Access to to stream those programmes in the future may change.

For those of you with either Sky Stream or Sky Glass - you can get the UK free-to-air channels like BBC 1 and 2, Channel 4, right?

I know they have their own online offerings, but I hate switching streaming services to flick through live channels

I now have it installed and running.
Picture is superb. EPG works fine. Apple+, Netflix, Amazon, Paramount+and Disney all installed and working.
Not very fussed about recording so won't miss it and as I said the saving of very nearly 500 quid is a big bonus.
The one thing I didnt remember to think to ask about was my grandfather rights to F1hd so I expect I've lost that.
However as F1 is as boring as fk not fussed one way or the other.
Are you able to tell if the remote is Bluetooth or IR or capable of either?

Yes, with Glass everything is HD as well. Not sure if Stream will be the same.

Sorry, meant to say add to watch list not record. No need for the sarcasm. The point stands, it's a limitation of the puck not present with Sky Q.

Installed a customers Streams today.

Can confirm it is both a bluetooth and IR remote, switchable in the same way as Sky Q

And like Q you can program the remote to control the TV and any additional Audio hardware.

Good news for us as it means we can us a control system to learn and spit out the IR commands for a series of stream boxes.

They’ve knocked £5/month off sport.

Does this work like old sky in that you can start watching a program when ever, or more like All4 where you need to wait for it to finish before it’s on the app?

I have now been using the stream box for the last 16 days. So I will attempt to answer your question.
I use it as a freeview box which also has "all" the sky channels. When you start to watch a prog it asks you if you would like to watch from the beginning this seems to work by finding a streaming version of the show and playing that or in the case of iplayer using the play from beginning function.
It's all seamless in operation.
I must also add that the picture quality is superb on my OLED LG telly
I can understand that this won't suit everyone especially the record to watch later gang but so far we haven't missed anything.
Reports that the ITV player doesn't play nice with the box I can't comment on as I haven't watched anything on ITV since that David Tenant, Olivia Coleman thing a few years ago.
To sum up it's ideal for my use and saves me 500 quid a year.
I have lost my F1 grandfather rights though.

Thanks that helps.

The reason I ask is I find I’ll be 10 mins late for a show so have to wait for All4 to have it an hours+ later. Or with the F1 I don’t have time during the day to watch, so like to watcher on Sunday evening. Old sky just records it, but I can’t have a dish where I live, so the ability to just stream it when I’m ready is a big bonus for me, otherwise it’s acquired via other means…

Is it still possible to record ? I dont want to have to go back and try and find something - I can do that on iPlayer, 4OD etc.

Does Stream work better than a Q Mini box for garden rooms?

I just can't get my Q Mini to work consistently from my office, which is not much more than 5 metres from the Q Mini in the kitchen. It works with the office door open, but not with it closed.

(Powerlines won't work, I suspect because the office is on a separate 32A breaker to the mains ring).

One thing to be aware of with live sport, as with many streaming services, is it’s a good 30+ seconds behind versus terrestrial!
