The best sounding (produced/mastered) tracks/albums
Discussion
Don't know if it's been mentioned already but I always thought Kraftwerk stuff was well produced. Aerodynamik and the live Minimum-Maximum albums in particular.
A lot Apple's lossless and 'Apple Digital Master' stuff sounds great as well, even on rubbish Bluetooth 5.x. Hopefully BT 6 will address some of the bandwidth shortcomings of 5.x

I remember when that first came out, the drum intro was particularly striking. One of my most-played albums of all time.
This thread is one of those that makes me wish I’d done something like music production for a living.
I remember finally getting an ancient Premier Piccolo Snare to sound exactly like that recording - never managed it again though. This thread is one of those that makes me wish I’d done something like music production for a living.
Marvin Gaye - What’s Going On, SACD MoFi remaster.
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life, original vinyl + 1998 CD remaster is very acceptable.
999 - Separates.
Simple Minds - New Gold Dream.
Kraftwerk - all CD remasters.
Prince - Diamonds and Pearls, not his best artistically, but sounds lush.
Massive Attack - Blue Lines, 2012 remaster, 192/24.
Jordi Savall - generally his stuff sounds delightful, especially Rameau-era works, trios and quartets, on SACD or 96/24 and 192/24.
Rosalía - El Mal Querer.
Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be An Introvert.

Am really enjoying the latest Amyl & The Sniffers album, Cartoon Darkness. To my ears at least, the production of this is pretty much spot-on
Bailing on me being just one of the songs....

I've been buying some vinyl Kraftwerk recently, excellent quality really. That was until I managed to scratch the opening to Autobahn, not a happy bunny.A lot Apple's lossless and 'Apple Digital Master' stuff sounds great as well, even on rubbish Bluetooth 5.x. Ref covers, David Gilmour's cover of Between Two Points is superb.
Just listening to Saint Etienne's The Night. I thought their previous album, I've Been Trying To Tell You, was a bit off piste but this one is so un-Etienne like you wouldn't guess they were the same band if you did a blind test with an album like So Tough.
On my second listen but really like it and the production is superb.

I was interested to hear about albums that are recorded live direct to the master disc - not an easy thing to do...
Thelma Houston's 'I've Got The Music In Me' is one such album - whilst not quite my kind of music, it's an interesting production, lots of subtle audio coming through. Worth a go.

Being quite new to this sort of thing I've listened to some of the tracks listed and they really are impressive. There was a track with Boris blank from yello that was nice to hear and very clear. Having listened to yello growing up.
I'm firstly a metal guy but I have a fairly broad taste. From flicking around it seems metal isn't necessarily so much suited to showcasing (?) Good production? I would think it's all relative but it seems to me to be easier to show off good production with music that has more space in it. That seems my initial thought anyway.
I've always known I prefer more modern sounds, friends who like muddy waters for example I can't get on with older production, same goes for metal albums pre 90s generally.
I had a scan through much of my normal listens and to me much of it is better than the old stuff but it can't compete with the examples on here. It doesn't come across as that good really.
I would say that the stuff that is better from my taste are..
Joe satriani "dream song"
Smashing pumpkins "perfect"
LTJ Bukem "Demons theme 2"
Guthrie Govan "Wonderful slippery thing"
I'd be interested in others views on the busy music, or metal. For me if the guitar is in my face I'm quite content.
I listen through YouTube music which I am aware isn't that good. I did have an account with somewhere else in the past and I made comparisons, i dont remember where it was but it was one of the better ones. But for the money I've stuck with it. I may have to revisit better sources.
I have a nice pair of Sony voice cancelling cans. I've got my dad's technics hifi with a pair of floor standers in storage. I always liked the way that sounded. I remember when I was little, George Michael's faith was released I remember hearing that and Fleetwood mac, my dad pointing out where the instruments in the mix sat. That was cool looking back. Probably not the best album lyrics to have a child listen to haha.
I'm going to spend more time paying attention to the production. I don't need it to keep me satisfied but it is something to enjoy and I can see how people get into hifi.
