Sonos May 2024 update
Discussion
Yes, it's their form for this behaviour as you mentioned, that makes me question whether it's worth continuing with Sonos.
Having said that, I do have a number of Raspberry Pis at my disposal, along with some spare SSDs... maybe I could lash-together a more up-to-date NAS? Honestly I would prefer not to have to - maybe this is a Winter project. Still very annoyed with this.

I've been trying just using AirPlay for everything and it works pretty well, certainly a lot better than the early days of it.
Need another speaker for my office so have a HomePod Mini on the way, if I like it (and we're an all-Apple household) then I may start replacing the Sonos speakers.

The new Raspberry Pi 5 has capability to connect NVMe drives with an add-on "hat". I don't have one of those in my collection of RPis so I just spec'd up what it would cost to build a NAS based upon one and it looks like about £120 with an NVMe SSD of a suitable size (not huge). Already my man-maths have kicked-in to try and justify it...

The home pod minis are brilliant. I got one for my kids room and it’s great. Very responsive and accurate with Siri commands. Much better UX than Sonos IMHO, which I never really gelled with. We have the Google pods, and a couple of Google screens Good enough sound for radio and podcasts etc and as background music
I have a feeling Sonos is going to be restricted to the amp I have connected up in my den.
I could probably sell my kit and get a good amount towards a streaming amp that also work with my turntable. Properly bored of the the general unreliability now.
I’m a bit of a Luddite when it comes to this stuff, which is why I always liked SONOS. Just seemed easy to get on with. I updated the app before reading anything, and OMG!!! What the Hell happened? Every morning I pop the radio on whilst I get breakfast ready for B.jnr. I have it on in 2 of our 5 SONOS equipped rooms, the switch it off when we head out on the school run.
First of all, couldn’t easily select the rooms I wanted it to play in. And then, trying to turn it off was a nightmare! It genuinely felt like I had mistakenly downloaded a beta version of their very first app. Utterly shocking UI.
And they have the cheek to launch a pair of near £500 headphones just after this calamity? Such a poor, misguided judgement from a company I’ve had nothing but praise for until now.
(I appreciate this adds nothing of value to the conversation, just fancied a rant!)

Yep, all of mine disappeared from the app and no longer exist. I've seen on the forum that I need to reset them and repair as if from scratch. Thankfully I only just bought them recently (arc, sub, 2 x era300) and have only been using them with my tv. And as they're still plugged in via HDMI they are still working perfectly for TV content. I wanted to start messing around with all the features but will hold off, I saw on the forum someone said they spent all day before managing to reset and repair their setup. So I'll just keep using as is, and then do that when I have a weekend free.
Surprisingly rubbish service though, only went for them as thought they would be one of the easier systems to deal with. Just wanted something I could setup and forget.

My app updated automatically. I only have a Beam Soundbar which I mainly use to listen to the radio (when not using it as a TV soundbar).
Half of my radio presets don't work. They just throw an error, or hang when play is selected. Even when you search for the station again, they won't play. I can see my NAS based music library, which has about a thousand albums on it. Selecting the Songs tab shows about 50 tracks. It is really irritating.

after updating the app i lost access to my library, but it briefly returned. Now access is gone again! anyone else noticed this?
It will probably come back, hopefully just before you you throw something at the wall in frustration.I haven't got a library but keep losing services and speakers randomly.
I have a list of podcasts some of which have just stopped updating and some of which update fine.
Favourites come and go.
Load of old bks really.

So my Sonos Ones started breaking up, then cutting out, and then finally ceasing to connect at all to my Mac this evening. I had to reboot them and my router to get them running again. So annoying! This happens fortnightly since the new app, so I take it back as well, lol.
Are the newer Sonos speaker any more stable?
My turn to join the rant. Had the App pushed to me last Friday (I had held off because of the issues). Now I cannot control the Volume on my Playbar with the LG Magic remote and the surrounds no longer work. I tried all the standard ways to reconnect and get working so did an IM chat with SONOS help who told me all the standard ways to get reconnected (despite me telling them I had already done it). None work and they ended up clueless. Next I need to phone them but only open during daytime hours Mon - Fri. Why did they continue to push the roll out of the App when they knew they had issues
I moved my music library from my "was working just fine until Sonos decided to withdraw support for it" NAS to a Sonos compatible device and now the option to even *see* the music library has gone in the Android app. I can see it in the PC app but, fk me, this is an absolute shambles.
It does not seem to be getting any better. They released a new update yesterday and still not access to my music library. I have changed the inferface protocol to SMB2 and it says it can see the music and that it is indexing it. Indexing completes after a while as I have nearly 13000 tracks but then there is nothing shown nor any indication that I have a music library. No problems accessing my music library on the NAs from any other software so this is all Sonos crappy software. Thank god I have Roon as that is what I am now using. This must rank as one of the most ill thought out and amateurish software updates I have seen from an established software company.
