itunes without the PC ?

Got the NAS box with itunes server built in.

Got the iPhone with remote itunes app

Got the NAS BOX near to my hi-fi speakers


Question is, has anyone made a device that doesn't require itunes to be run on a PC ?
Kind of like Roku/Sonus, but still using itunes ?

Install Squeezecenter on NAS (If you bought the QNAP, its built in like the iTunes server)

Buy Squeezebox.

Done.

You can output music straight from your HDX-1000, I've trialled it (digital out) straight into my AV Processor and it was quite good, and certainly very listenable (Not quite as good as a Squeezebox Digital out into same AV Processor). Just set up a share to the Music direfolder on the NAS.

Can't handle an I-tunes library though, which SqueezeCenter can do, and I think you would need to find a better browsing app, but it certainly works.

Ok but will the iphone remote app still recocnize it?
(Would prefer to use my phone to select tunes via the app, rather than carry around a dedicated Squeezebox remote)

There are squeezebox controller apps for the Touch and iPhone, not sure about the HDX-1000!!

The SQUEEMOTE could be the ticket (wallet opens slowly)

Squeezebox connected to Hi-Fi, SSOTN on the QNAP and the Sqeemote on iphone, as you say.. job done
