Looking to purchase a new set up in the next 3 to 6 months and starting to do some research when I thought I would ask the wise folks on PH.

Basically need to purchase a 42" plasma (but open to opinions on LCD), SKY HD, Blueray player, CD player, amp, speakers.

Budget is around £2000, so not too high end but kind of low to mid range I guess.

Current set up - which is over 7 years old, telly 4 years old (which will be ousted to a spare room) is a 42" Samsung plasma, Mission floor standers, Sony AV amp, Sony DVD Player, Sky+ box.

Any advice, suggestions?

I'm really happy with my Onkyo 605 amp which I picke up a couple of years ago for £400. I think it's replacement the 606 has addditional features as well.

I have some small Jamo speakers (A102 series) which i'm very pleased with as well. It all depends on what sort of setup you want though. Ours is quite discreet as the speakers (and TV) are wall mounted with all the cables hidden in the wall/ceiling.

All in I think it cost £570 for the amp and speakers. That should leave you £1000? for the TV and another £400 for the BluRay etc

We would normally supply a Panasonic 42" plasma (G10) Panasonic bluray player(BD60) Onkyo SR577 AV amplifier and a Jamo HCS5 speaker pack. This will give you HD Audio and video switching. The Jamos/Onkyo pair together very well and combined out perform their price point. Prices will be pretty steady for the next six months or so - perhaps some movement on the TV - but you should pick all this up with some cables for around the £2k mark and be very happy with the results.

Oh couldn't agree more! This week I have mostly been enjoying the 46" Pana Plasma supplied by DeR.....the TV is only surpassed by the quality of service!

most AV prices to go through the roof. all dollar based even the chinese stuff. price rises coming in around the 20% mark for most as the currency changes that happened prexmas stock buying now kick in.
denon etc all rising even brit stuff likely to go up as their assembly might here but the parts are far east sourced.
