Every time I switch on my 3 month old panasonic plasma the picture picture breaks down (depixellates?)in sections of the sceen and is accompanied by a matching breakdown in the sound . After maybe 15-20 minutes it stabilises and is no problem , it never happens when playing dvd's and is never quite as bad in analogue mode. Anybody experienced similar ? Any explanations

When you say analogue mode, is the problem happening purely through a Freeview or Sky source?

If so, thats the problem - check signal quality and strength, and move on from there...

I looked at forums about these for a while before buying one and can't recall seeing that fault mentioned.

Presumeably you're watching using the built in Freeview tuner? I guess the first thing you'll be asked about is the quality of the aerial and its downlead.

But if all was well and nothing has changed (has a big building been scaffolded next door, for example!) then call the suppliers service people out.

If all of the other inputs are fine then I guess your issue is with the inbuilt Freeview tuner. If you have an old Freeview box then hook that up usin gthe same aerial lead and see if that breaks up also. We have sold a couple of 32LXD85 from Panasonic that did have a Freeview tuner issue that was resolved by swapping the unit out so it could well be that.

YUp - sounds like a signal problem, I'm on the edge of coverage and pixilation is the result - esp in stormy/windy weather.

IDTV reception can be a real playground for gremlinkind.

I observe FreeView inconsistencies (ito random breakup as described) on a routine basis domestically and have tried everything by way of aerial/signal optimisation in what is a perfect reception area.

Wor uberduper plasma will sometimes decide the gyrations of Beyonce's various mounds on channel 18 is fit only for pixelation whilst the dulcet tones of Arthur Hague in the chamber on 81 is perfectly acceptable: furthermore, many channels will for a second or three exhibit the pixel dance then settle into stability - yet a set elsewhere has never so much as hinted at anything similar.

My conclusion is not dissimilar to that reserved for decent CD players in the days when most people were interested in quality over gimmicky convenience: I always recall a Mission PCM player simply could not play past Touch Too Much from a seemingly pristine copy of Highway To Hell whilst a common or garden CD radio/cassette device in the shed had no such issues...

The culprit is (tuner) 'sensitivity' and variations between examples of a similar model will be related to multifarious, installational factors but also, component changes in different series of a single models production lifespan may also impact variously.
