Chef quality is def down on previous years IMHO, i feel like they are scraping the barrel at the moment, which is a bit harsh i know given they still have plenty of 1* chefs on, must be a bit of a gamble if they come on and go out after fish wink.

Also not a huge fan of Tom, not so sure on the new chic either, Ed is a winner though, he's funny and has a decent lay persons take on food.

The story links to the food are tenuous to say the least..

Worst region so far, by a long way imo.

Not having practiced a dish is unforgivable as well as stupid and disrespectful imo.

I think Spencer got 40/40 when he was competing, just opened a place on Savile Row which immediately got 1 star so probably a tough judge!
(Jason Atherton opened but he is head chef)

He's been very encouraging to the chefs but uncompromising in his standards. Lewis is letting nerves get to him again this year.

I just hope Lewis can get his act together tomorrow.

He went out at fish course last year iirc so a great incentive for him.

It does feel as in recent years there has been a large increase in the number of chefs from bistros and gastro pubs and they are the ones who seem to struggle and/or over complicate things. Having said that I think we had out first 'non-restaurant' chef in the 3rd series, but until Tom Kerridge appeared I do not remember any of them doing particularly well. (I have eaten at The Hand & Flower and it was good, but it was good for a gatro pub, if you know what I mean. He was certainly cooking that day as he we did see him - it was when he had lost too much weigh before putting some back on again).

On the Welsh week (spoiler wrapper for those who've not yet seen).
I agree that nerves probably got to Lewis again. With Seb Lewis - no excuses at all and agree it does feel like he was taking the piss. He's a chef at a full blown restaurant so he has no excuses. As to the quality of the competing chefs, like with Scotland this region has been disappointing for a while.

After weeks of mediocrity we have some chefs who can cook.

My mate was the first man out this year! Silly mistakes, he's a great chef.

I have form though, another mate went out first week in MCtPs, Marcus Waring spat out his béchamel sauce rofl

Not a great season so far but this weeks certainly look promising.

Some of the best we've seen.

I always think its a shame you have a week with 4 very good chefs, meaning good chefs and food gets dropped, that follow some mediocre ones from other regions who get through with meals you couldn't see at a banquet...
