Angus Deayton gets dropped as presenter because he ended up in the news after a scandal, which meant subsequent shows would all be about him. Guest presenters are hired instead, like Jeremy Clarkson who recently ended up in the news after a scandal, which meant the subsequent show was all about him. Yay for consistency!
*edited to acknowledge that there was a gap of probably 15 years between these events, but I still enjoyed the irony.

This show always had a lefty bias, but in its defence it used to be mildly amusing. Just had to turn tonight's off. Cross between complete drivel and a Labour Party broadcast. Can't see myself watching again. Pure crap now.
They shouldn't have that arch communist Hislop on it every week.tvrolet said:

Charlie Brooker and Diane Abbott. I get the feeling they think it's a restoring a balance after Clarkson. It isn't.Friday's was the worst one I'be seen in ages. Brooker, Abbot and that other talentless tt with Ian Hislop (I don't know his name) were just on a left-wing rant.
But what does Paul Merton do now ? For as long as I can remember now he hardly says anything and his main act seems to be pulling his "what's that all about?" surprised face, whilst moving his head from side to side as a "comedy double take". Every week he does that same thing - that's all he seems to be able to do now.

Think her press office probably told her to keep quiet. Not much happening there last night.
I think you are right. She never went off on some rant like she usually does which is odd for her and why the hell did she use Wendoline as her hairstyle inspiration? This really does sum it all up. NSFW (language).

Personally I think it died years ago when they lost Angus and never really got back from that. It also jumped the shark when they had Prescott on.
I watched the extended version on iplayer. It was good, not that bad. The Pointless guy is just quick and sharp. There were a few knuckle moments but they all weren't at JC. Comments about Cameron and others etc.
Hislop was good, as was Pointless and JC. JC and Pointless shared a chuckle at the end.

I wonder if he is getting fed-up again, like he did a few years ago? There's a comment in Clarkson's column in the Mail (I don't read it, it was on the bar in the pub last night, honest) that suggests Richard Osman had quite a few other people with him providing some of his comments (suggesting heavy editing probably) and that JC decided to play the "OK, I deserve it" face for whatever was thrown at him. Osman isn't just a presenter though - I'm pretty sure he's behind quite a few of the recent game show format ideas. Whether that makes it worse or better is a matter of opinion of course.
Paul Merton doesn't do a great deal, true, but does have some cracking comments from time to time, just would be nice if they were a bit more often. I hadn't heard of the guy that was with Hislop this week, and I was surprised they didn't mention Diane Abbot's "thing" with Corbyn.
