I used to watch Lorraine on breakfast tv years ago, I never had any trouble understanding her accent, tonight I had to use subtitles.
Is she talking more 'Scottish' or am I going deaf...... pardon ?
Same here.Is she talking more 'Scottish' or am I going deaf...... pardon ?
Annoyingly there was something like a 5-10 second lag with the subtitles. Given that it’s pre-recorded I’m not sure why they couldn’t sync them properly.
Solid show tonight. Hislop's story about meeting the Archbishop of Canterbury at a social function (post resignation) was worthy of more time.
Private Eye, as is often the case, has been on this story for ages, and and Hislop tried to shame the ABC, who sounds like a sociopath.
Link to a pic of Hislop's Private Eye column on the meeting at the British Museum.

Tonight's episode was poor, they did a complete disservice to the farming community, repeating the lies of the tax changes not affecting them significantly.
O/T I do wonder why farming land is relatively expensive, yet the returns from farming are poor. The ROI must be abysmal.
One possible reason for land price inflation is that acquirers don't buy for farming; it's just another trophy asset, but with handy IHT advantages.
If Dyson, with half a million acres already, has rival bidders for his purchases, for example, then prices go one way. Without the tax breaks the land would stabilise to a multiple of the profit per acre. Like any asset.
Also, there's an estimated 4.5 million acres of grouse estates. They also get tax breaks for little return to the country. Raising near flightless birds on around 300 estates is not exactly agriculture.
Anyway, HIGNFY was good tonight IMHO.
I’ve really enjoyed it, this series has been very good, Merton seems to have raised his game, and someone must have had a word.
The Scots woman required some concentration, Maise was good fun, Matt seemed to be holding back a bit.
I often feel some of Hislop’s anecdotes need a little more expanding, but I guess that’s the nature of the programme.

Hislop's the National Treasure there. Someone who could have blended seamlessly into the establishment (and I guess still does, given the ABC anecdote) but has chosen to be the Whistle-Blower Royal. The Scots woman required some concentration, Maise was good fun, Matt seemed to be holding back a bit.
