Apparently.
Trailer looks good but only seen through third party sights.

Looks good.

At long last - a faithful (hopefully) retelling of the original story.

I've stood beside the depression at Horsell Common where the first Martian machine landed.

BBC ran an ad just after I posted it. Spooky, but yeah, looks the business, will it deliver.

Side note, Jeff Wayne’s war of the world tour is well worth it when it is on the road.

Hoping this does the original musical justice.

The audible version done with Taron Egerton was awful.

Thanks for the link, didn't know about this. Looks really good (and seemingly faithful to the book).

I didn't know about this either and I'm a huge fan of the Jeff Wayne version - Just seen that the first episode is on the 6th October! biggrin

ETA - I'm leaving the date in above, but google showed episode 1 due on the 6th October. My TV guide app does not.

6th Oct? Superb. I hate the spring announcements for an autumn release.

Edit.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2018/...

Look at the date. This slipped under the radar. I was searching on BBC 1. BBC ONE returned better results rolleyes

Edit. Er..... I hope this is not a lemon.

The “musical” is based on a classic science fiction novel by HG Wells (as was the Tom Cruise movie).
Go and sit in the corner.

Radio Times said:
“HG Wells’ seminal novel has been adapted for the screen many times, but it’s always had a contemporary (and American) setting,” director Craig Viveiros said. “This is the first version to be set in London and [its environs] during the Edwardian period.”
However, George and Amy – Spall and Tomlinson’s characters – are a new addition.
rolleyes bks.
Can’t leave it alone can they?
Still, I guess having a white, middle aged physically able male of undisclosed (because it’s irrelevant) sexuality as the solo lead character is just so last century.
Will the Artillery Man be rebranded as some kind of war criminal?

Yes. I’m well aware of that fact thanks. I know Jeff’s daughter.

I was wondering.....

I have the large tome with seven or so of HG Wells stories in. Not sure what year but £4.95 and part published by the same firm that initially published his works.

Fair enough. Just seems a bit misdirected to hope that a TV adaption of a classic novel does justice to the musician adaptation of said novel as opposed to the source material itself.

PS My dad knew Lloyd-George.
Or something.

Haha. It’s all good.

I was referencing the terrible version that Audible did.
I’m just hoping that if they do put any of the music in, it won’t be as bad as that version.

It could be a black screen for 2 hours and it would be better than Tom Cruises effort.

Never got the Audible version, they ruined Dune. I started to look for certain narrators and avoided the mixed up ones.

I quite liked it. The bit where the tripod first comes out of the ground and plays that foghorn sound - genuinely chilling.

"Eleanor Tomlinson and Rafe Spall play George and Amy, a couple defying the prejudices of society as they attempt to start a life together"

Was it frowned upon to fancy gingers back then?

Fingers crossed for this, I really hope they have HMS Thunderchild in it.

This to me will define it - Will it be awesome? What will the CGI be like for "that scene"?

Good too see they have found a way to get a strong female character in to this. Honestly I wish the BBC could just make something without this type of bullst. What's wrong with a straight up period correct adaptation that's never actually been done before.

I may be reading to much into it but the trailer very much makes me think we will be seeing a strong female character and a love story shoehorned in.

One article did say it would have been out sooner but they were not happy with the CGI.

It would be good to see the artillery mans idea shown in detail.

The main characters wife and his love and concern for her is a main part of the original story.

Have you ever read it?
