One thing we noticed, that as soon as UK seemed to be in the mix and well in with a shout, little Graham Norton lost his mojo and his usual bitter cynicism went very flat and eventually disappeared. Terry would just have rolled with it, had another gin, and carried on but just a bit more pissed. He was indeed the best.

Spain with the 'sparkly arse party' were trying a reprise of the Polish milkmaid tactic from a few years back. Their singer, whilst fit as, was just irritating though.

As for the crim entry, wtf. Banging on about how being a gay guy is so lonely. There were 10,000 of them right there old fruit. H/T to Tim Stanley @DT for that joke.

I would absolutely laugh my socks off if she turned out to be trans. Especially how some PHers claim to be able to spot a trans woman with 100% accuracy no exceptions and claim they all look like blokes in a dress. That would rather make my day I think. smile

Well, we enjoyed it smile

It's a bit of fun once a year, and it always delivers entertainment, in all manner of ways. The jokes are terrible, the presenters are terrible, the whole thing is as 'camp and fabulous' as you can imagine, and it's all very good natured. What more could anyone want?

I do disagree slightly about the reasons for our success. Yes, Eurovision can be a little political, but I think we overstate that element of it massively. I think the panels/jury votes are actually taken far more seriously, with regards to what is a good song, than we feel they are.

For 20 years we have treated Eurovision as nothing more than a joke, completely political, and not to be taken seriously. Naturally, we have spent 20 years getting the results we deserve.

This year, we actually took it seriously. Engaged the best talent management agencies to find an artist, studios, set designers, music promotion agencies, and so on.

What we don't really see in the UK is the promotion and radio play of Eurovision entries in the months leading up to the contest, but in other countries, it is massive. This time around we actually spent months promoting the song and sending Sam Ryder all over Europe to do gigs and promote radio play.

I totally agree that the public vote lumped on Ukraine massively, irrespective of how good or bad their song was, but that was to be expected from the public. They also did the same for Serbia, probably just because it was so bizarre, and the voters were just taking the piss.

Agree with the bit about Graham Norton below. He kind of spoiled it a bit. Came across like he couldn't be arsed at all and was still treating it like a complete joke, when in fact our entry this year wasn't a joke, and people had tried very hard this time. Maybe time for a change of commentator for the UK?

Maybe I am completely tone deaf but there wasn't much of a difference in song quality this year compared to the past. Yes it was quite catchy but not to the extent it was the winner and previous years were null points.

It surely is political.

He might well be the only gay in Wollongong Goolie Creek. He certainly wasn't the only gay in Turin.

Apparently, the Ukraine is saying that they are HOPEFUL of being able to stage next years contest. scratchchin
You have got to admire their optimism.
If they cannot host it there, my bet is on it being guest hosted here in the UK.
Called it. Should have placed a bet on it.

Couldn't find a Euro 2023 thread and have zero interest in the comp but I quite like this potential Irish entry by John Lydon/PIL. It's about his wife who has Alzheimers.
