I'm generally the first person to express my disdain with other motorists who aren't doing things in the way I expect but with more and more reports like the one below appearing it seems much more sensible to just shrug (in a non-confrontational way), smile and let them get on with it....

A YOUNG couple were beaten after getting into an argument with a car driver.

The 25-year-old man and his 27-year-old partner were in Leeds city centre at 2.50am on September 9 when they became involved in an exchange with the motorist who had tried to go the wrong way down a one-way street.

The driver jumped out of his car at the junction of Central Road and Duncan Street and began fighting with the man. A second attacker, who came running along Duncan Street, assaulted the woman. Other passengers assaulted both victims, knocking the woman to the ground.

They got back into the dark-coloured three-door car and drove off into Commercial Street, but again the car stopped, near Vicar Lane, and one of the passengers got out and punched the man to the ground, kicking him in the head.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses, especially passers-by who came to the victims’ aid, to contact DC Phil Maher on 0845 606 0606.
...but if we all settle for this kind of thing then who is left to try and help these people learn? In the story above the circumstances around the car using a one way street the wrong way are unclear, in Leeds at that time of day it may have been considered an illegal short-cut rather than a genuine mistake but what should you do? I often try to alert people to things such as trying to turn down a no-entry road for their own sake, do I just let them get on with it for fear they might decide to get the mental?

Note: For the record I have a beard (enough to make a couple of goatees) and am powerfully built but am a gentle chap who would rather just try and make the world a better place.

Armoured cars and locked doors?
