Oh do fk off troll. Have you met him? I've met hundreds of officers in my time; some good, some bad, some unbelievably crap, and he was excellent - regardless of his position within the Royals. If you regard showing respect for a decent bloke as forelock-tugging then you need to get a life.
You do put forward a rather compelling argument. Shuvi- how is it under the bridge nowadays?

Every crew Phil' was with went through the same as him. Don't mistake my utter contempt at the forelock-tugging on display for a lack of respect for the men and women of the forces during wartime.
As for what my father did; well if he wants to sign up and tell you about it that's up to him, but I'm not going to post his exploits to some randoms on the internet.
It's a little irrational to think that the very same people who respect Phil's record wouldn't have the same and more respect for all the others in the same situation. As for what my father did; well if he wants to sign up and tell you about it that's up to him, but I'm not going to post his exploits to some randoms on the internet.
To respect one is to respect them all. To make exclusions highlights a disrespect born from bigotry of some kind. It's not healthy.
Not sure why some people are giving Derek Smith a hardtime, he is giving his personal opinion and relating how other officers felt towards the Duke, I would imagine the man is hard to please and therefore ruffled a few feathers.
Nice to hear that he is on the mend though, I do like his character.

Nope, there are plenty of old codgers like him around.
Absolutely - and I'm one of them, though I don't get the equivilant of his income - lol. My wife cringes sometimes when I come out with un-PC things but bks - I'll say what I want, and in our family my wife is the equivilant of Royalty.
