He only put 10 million of the 60 million. The rest has come from Discovery and Legatum.

I have been given the low down by a friend who works there. They were only given a few days notice of the date they were going live. Originally it wasn't due to launch so early and they were meant to have weeks of prep time, training and building content. They actually had only hours of prep time each. They still don't have some of their equipment which has made it difficult. He still loves it as it is a step up for him.

Personally I think the do have a place still, they may well have to make quite a big pivot though.
Can you ask him why the audio is still echoing and worse than a bedroom youtuber?
I listened to about a minute of the Neil interview by Farage on youtube and turned it off.
That was a shame, you should have persevered it was a very interesting interview.

Why was the audio poor, in many ways, it was like an interview in a bedroom, Neil was in his lounge in his home in France, he wasn't in the studio.
You'd think with all the money he makes, plus the fact he's been doing media content delivery stuff from home for two years now, he'd invest a couple of hundred quid in a decent mic and some acoustic panels.
Perhaps Neil doesn't want to turn his home into a recording studio, the sound quality was more than adequate and on a par with the umpteen interviews he gave on both GMB and the This Morning show with Schofield and Willerby.

I know it's quite bizarre, although it probably also explains why quality has never been so compromised since GB News started. It's really done on the cheap.

Not quite - they spent a lot on on-screen contracts/signing-on bonuses and the £60m will be spent well before the end of Year 2. I suspect without substantial advertising income they'll be financially embarrassed after about 18 months.

Unless they've a wealthy backer... There are a few individuals and organisations who want a captive audience so they can limit what they know (al a Fox News).
They have a wealthy backer - Mumford banjo-player’s dad - but the limit was apparently £60m. So they need to reduce costs, increase ad revenue, get another wealthy right-wing sugar-daddy or try to ditch some staff and not have to pay out on their contracts.

I look forward to seeing GBN dance to the tune of whatever Pied Piper they manage to drag up.
He only put 10 million of the 60 million. The rest has come from Discovery and Legatum.

I have been given the low down by a friend who works there. They were only given a few days notice of the date they were going live. Discovery put about £20m in as a starter, but then there was a bit of a slog to get the funding sorted. Legatum came in next and it was very much a politically-based rather than financial investment; the owner, Christopher Chandler is a strong Brexit supporter and wanted to steer the channel to the right. They've stated that they limited themselves to £20m. After that came Sir Paul Marshall (banjo-dad) with the remainder, who put the remaining money in and again pushed the free-market, Brexit-supporting, anti-woke message.

If they need more money it won't come from Discovery - and it will have to come from people who are less concerned with financial performance and more about political rhetoric - which will skew the channel's stance still further.

An example of poor technical implementation by GBNews. The Tom Tugendhat speech was rightly shown and praised on all channels, but compare the image quality here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3DWyH9Yq_g - with the BBC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chhy1Tdne_Q . Sky https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQjUTP0Wbyk&t=... or Guardian https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcWHmtHr0ww .

The GBNews version is softer and stutters when panning across. This isn't a one-off, all their parliament coverage is like that, which suggests a problem with their setup. This sort of issue, along with the regular sound and lighting fails suggests the technical setup was indeed very rushed and poorly planned.

At the moment, Sky news through my Virgin box keeps wigging out so GB news is winning the quality war there smile

So it's marginally better than something which is actually broken then?

They've got a noise gate set up somewhere that's totally cutting the audio when it drops below a threshold.

Apparently it's all using NewTek NDI video over IP rather than "conventional" SDI. This doesn't really explain the fails, as NDI is pretty robust and mature tech. https://www.mediability.com/gbnews-press-release/

I'm not suggesting he does. £50 of acoustic foam in his office, and a £100 microphone isn't a "recording studio" and would sound a damn sight better. To be fair, a £30 Skype headset would also be an improvement.

You and I clearly have very different ideas of adequate. I genuinely thought there was something wrong with my sound bar.

GB News should consider getting David Icke on - there's a big crossover in Icke Believers and Farage Believers. Also, Icke's earnings mean that his tech set-up is professional.

So the sound would be better too.

They should do a series in which David Icke travels around the country on a bicycle interviewing the general public on the issues of the day. Plus they could run a daily poll to get the publics opinion. They could call it....

"Icke on a bike with a mike for likes".

Give them time... I imagine that they have talent scouts combing local Facebook groups looking for uninformed rants against cycle lanes / global warming conspiracies / woke culture / modern life in general as we speak

Dyke /d??k/- Pejorative use of the word still exists, but the term dyke has been reappropriated by many lesbians to imply assertiveness and toughness.

Although I will admit that I did have to check before posting, just to make sure.

Piha, you are busted !!

You are the charismatic South of England unicycle champion Jeremy “just f++king watch this” Spatchcock. Your hands free wall of death marathon is still spoken of with awe in monowheel land.

You are a legend for your taproom coupling with West Country white cider heiress and renowned ‘fisherman’s friend’ Chlamydia (Clammy) Budleigh-Salterton following an all day sesh in the notorious Soho watering hole ‘Le Tapis Collant’ which is sadly no more, bought by a Labour Momentum entrepreneur who installed a mop bucket and pie warmer and then sold out to Wetherspoons.

Sir, we salute you, a leg end in your own lunchtime.

Damn you The Tommeh, damn you to an entire lifetime in the tory Party (aka hell) with your amateur sleuthing skillz! There should be rules about amateur sleuthing and I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for you pesky kids!

Although I'm more BTS than Busted....

Still plenty people watching GBNews, it has a market in the UK.
Still also plenty people who are afraid of an alternative political view point being mentioned on TV, giving people the option to gather their news/opinions other than from BBC/Sky.
Excerpt a) there really aren’t

And

b) it’s nothing to do with being ‘afraid’. I suspect you like to think that but it’s also not true. What it is is that we’ve seen what the likes of Fox, OAN and Newsmax have done the the US and really don’t want that. If you like the idea of an effectively unregulated media spewing out lies and the consequences that follow, then knock yourself out. Personally I’m not sure why anyone would want that. Also realise that they’re not doing it because they believe it. They’re doing it because it makes rich people richer and gives them even more power, whilst convincing you that poor people with brown skin are your enemies.

Is it any different to the lies perpetrated by the main stream media ? Until Farage made it common knowledge about the boats crossing the Channel the msm ignored the subject, perhaps you believe it is a subject that should be ignored ?
GB news hopefully will be a bit less left wing in its outlook and examine areas that are avoided by the main stream outlets.

Deluded idiots follow a channel aimed at reinforcing their delusions. The West is in grave danger of losing all touch with reality as profit driven entities strive to exploit deluded souls for their own gain.

Maybe this is how civilisations end - the preponderance of conspiracies and the rise of the idiocracy who revel in them.
