Senate Democrats bill to write Roe v. Wade into law was blocked by GOP-led filibuster yesterday case.
Well thats made it clear - at least it forced the GOP to vote and to show their true intentions and Manchin of course

Well, LBTQ can all get pregnant, depending on the flavour of the BTQ. And in the US, lesbian and bisexual women are more likely to get raped than straight women, so I guess they are alluding to the likelihood of abortion being banned in some states even for rape victims

That's an interesting point, didn't think of it like that. Thanks for highlighting.

There are also strong rumblings that the same basis being used for affecting the legality of abortion will be used to harm the foundations of LGBT rights in the US.

Women are on that list in every category, unless you’re willfully misinterpreting the point of the list for some reason.

Everyone knows that women cease to exist if you don't refer to them specifically at every opportunity.

It seems they put out a bizarre implication that women can’t be, Lesbian, bi, black, on low incomes etc, etc…

What's chilling about that, is that it's not firebrand far right people enforcing this, but reasonable, educated 'concerned' members of the community. Just like in Nazi Germany, there are a bunch of 'ordinarily nice people' with deeply set pre-conceived ideas, who just want to tell others how to live their lives, and they have just enough power to do it.

You would hope this would not be the case, sexual orientation really is a matter for the individual laws should not curtial adults from exercising this freedom with other consenting adults. Being Trans is not a sexual orientation before any one says what about women's bathrooms. (Trans people should still have rights of course)

The "individual laws" were originally defeated by the same right to privacy principle being torpedoed in this current scenario, and they have clearly signalled their intent for that expansion in scope.

I don't know if they will achieve it, I'd hope not. But they absolutely will try.

You only need to take a cursory glance at the legislation recently passed & proposed by some of the more conservative states to understand what the end-game is. Nothing less than a full roll-back of all gay & gender equality rights will satisfy the people behind the repealing of Roe vs Wade.

It’s all in the draft. Alito makes the case that abortion is unique in the group of rights that are protected in some way by the 14th amendment (try and find an ‘originalist’ source for that in the constitution)… but the road map is there.

I don't think that is a strong rebuttal at all, in fact, I think Alito could easily use that piece to support his position.
