The headlines alone sound like something Trump did in 2024.

Oh... Interesting.

I started the thread and no longer see it in my profile under "my topics".

Too young to be Micheal Gove or Doug Barrowman.. which is a shame
Michael, not Micheal. This is just a test post by the way, no offence meant.

I see Baroness Mone has been moaning on social media today about being hard done to, and the Brexit inquiry taking the PPE evidence in private. Don’t think anyone can even be bothered getting out the little violins.

Wondery have a podcast series called British Scandal. Season 42 is free to listen to and is well worth a listen. I enjoyed it and if anyone wants some insight on how Doug and Michelle operate, give it a whirl.

I live in a country known for corruption.

Covid was obviously a good opportunity.

The anti-corruption ministry went after these guys hard. Investigating all the aid programs and deals for PPE.

People were outraged at officials and those connected to making money off covid.

Kicking in doors, literally, in some cases.

Had a Health Minister, a mayor (that’s a big deal here), various civil servants and business people ….now all in prison. This started in the months after Covid. Long sentences.

One guy got 20 years (?) for adding a spurious small logistics fee to aid packages his company was tasked with producing and distributing, in cahoots with an official who signed off this in the contract. It was about the equivalent of 0.5p per package. Made them £1m.

Going through the small print by officers after Covid led them to being caught .

Still working their way through cases. Here is an 8 year sentence from last year. It references a 12 year sentence as well;

https://asianews.network/indonesia-lost-billions-i...

A lot of this was giving contracts to friends that weren’t qualified and in the process enriching themselves or using it for political gain.

Like giving PPE production to a mate down the pub……kind of thing.

I presume a modern western country like UK has already finished thorough investigations of all COVID contracts?

A pair of crooks, aided and abetted by a slimy accountant based in the IOM, whose father used to brag about the money his son had made out of PPE until it all came out. Utter scum in my view, but they’ll get away with it.

I thought Labour might have gone big on COVID investigations, digging up dirt on the Tories but I’ve not heard a great deal: maybe they’re up to their necks in it as well.

hehe

Finished? One would have to be seriously on the stlist to start to be investigated for anything related to the COVID-19 response.

Oops indeed, although the 2 emails after that are interesting.

Her defence will be that at the time she was not entitled to any financial gain (as not a shareholder), but that also she never denied that her husband was set to benefit. The fact that she did get some benefit afterwards (that, when the contract was awarded she wasn't entitled to, but was gifted after the event), is arguably irrelevant to the first point.

One for the lawyers. If it was a black and white contractual dispute she'd be fine, however with the court of public opinion against them will be interesting to see if/when it goes to court.

So the government knew that her husband was heavily involved and yet accepted the statement that she has no conflict whatsoever....would love to know what Mone and the government think a conflict is...

Or perhaps 'don't be so stupid as to allow yourself to be the token fall-guys'?

When I heard the enquiry was taking place in private my first thought was "what are they trying to hide"?

The horse-trading around what punishment they can be seen to apply while making it light enough that Mone and Barrowman (?) agree not to drop their Party mates in the st on the way down?
