No, they didn't hand over any keys. They left fully expecting to return after their Egyptian, Jordanian, and Syrian allies murdered all the Jews for them. That didn't work out so well, across multiple wars. So now they are stuck as refugees.

No, they didn't hand over any keys. They left fully expecting to return after their Egyptian, Jordanian, and Syrian allies to murder all the Jews for them. That didn't work out so well, across multiple wars. So now they are stuck as refugees.

Which is also due to Arab countries, instead of absorbing the refugees, like in any other conflict - e.g. UK and Ukrainians! No, with the exception of Jordan, keep them in refugee camps, don't let them have any number of jobs... apartheid. All to keep the refugee issue as a curmudgeon to bang Israel over the head with.

One of the biggest barriers to peace negotiations is the constant Palestinian insistence on a right to return to Israel, rather than to a future Palestinian state.

Jerusalem is another massive stumbling block, but that you can more easily spin doctor as "eternal and undivided capital of Israel is Jerusalem, but this city Al Quds isn't Jerusalem", except around the old city.
