They’ve never needed one, it’s not like they’ve been sitting on their hands.

It’s odd to see people looking at a country in the midst of committing a genocide and say, what could they have done to incite this hate?

To be clear, in every instance that I’m talking about Israel, I’m referring to the regime.

I know not everyone in Israel agrees with what’s happening in Gaza.

This is a direct intervention by Iran. Israel & Saudi are within inches of a peace deal brokered by the US, so sadly no surprise this is kicking off right now. However, I'm shocked at the scale of it. Surely GSS, Mossad & IDF intelligence should have seen this coming??
This is going to get VERY ugly - dozens reported dead already, reservist call up & Netanyahu already declaring war: https://www.ynetnews.com/article/rysg8i0l6#autopla...

One can only pray that things don't escalate out of all control......

Well it's the least successful genocide ever considering the Palestinian population growth. Meanwhile terrorists are stripping dead Israeli women and parading their bodies.

I have a feeling we're about to see just how restrained the Israelis have been thus far.

Has this caught Israeli intelligence on the hop? Surely something on this scale would be difficult to plan without the Israeli's knowing about it.
Looks like it. I wonder if the general disillusionment with government has weakened their capabilities or if Hamas have just got wiser.

Curious to see how the press reports on an open war where the US backs the occupier rather than the occupied.

You sound like a spokesperson for Hamas, it's not a good look.

The same as they've reported on every time Israel has defended itself in the last 30 years I imagine.

I have very little interest in others opinion of me round here tbh. The last time I got involved with a conversation about Israel I had comments removed though, so I may just leave yous to it.

Social media showing Hamas troops in Israeli military bases & walking uncontested through parts of the south. Lots of shot civilians & lots of hostages.

Heads will roll for this but not before a ton of blood has been spilled. frown

Hamas have well a truly kicked the hornets nest here and it’s not going to end well for them.

Sad situation as it’s their own people that will pay the price.

This kind of co-ordinated attack feels a lot more serious that previous battles and the Israelis won’t hold back.

This conflict has always been absolute catnip to the Left. I assume it's the imperialist oppression angle.

Hamas are murdering everyone they come across and abducting civilians, taking them back to Gaza including old women. Seems like the stupidest offensive in history as Hamas will only get destroyed in the long run and they’re showing their true colours so will surely lose any support they had.

All correct apart from them losing support. I've already seen someone on the BBC opining that this will give Israel the "excuse" to launch a "punishing" response.

This isn't going to end well for Hamas / Palestine. Israel is well known for responding with considerably more violence than they receive and this is a major attack based on some of the vids I've seen on Reddit. Lots of civilian vehicles attacked and prisoners taken as well by Hamas which is not going to reduce Israel anger, especially as they've been embarrassed by this surprise attack.

God help the civvies on both sides

Israel does not want to eradicate the Palestinians, heck, even the Gazans. They have the means to do it, but they don't.

The Palestinian leadership want to eradicate Israel and Jews, but thankfully don't have the firepower to do it like Israel has.
The Palestinians don't have a leadership in any meaningful sense. That's the real problem. The Palestinians have no one to represent them collectively with any legitimacy and therefore the Israelis have no one to negotiate with, even if they were interested in negotiation. The Palestinians are stuck in vicious circle of chaos. They can't extricate themselves from it.

The popular saying of “fk around and find out” will be taken to its ultimate conclusion.

100% this. Only Iran could have put something like this together. If I were a cynic, I'd say Iran are looking for a disproportionate Israeli response so that they can justify joining in.....
