There's a good chance he is not 'left' at all. Lots of us who know that trump is a lifelong disaster are right-leaning.
I was gonna post this, "Fair enough, although the msm is awash with the left, I will edit my post". But the thread got transferred so I couldn't.Point taken though.
He seems to be doing lots of things that people on the centre and left don't like.
They aren't disasters as far as people on the right are concerned.
There may be agreement on all sides that implementation might be a disaster but it's bit early to judge at the moment. Even Starmer has been given six months and says he needs more time (two terms I think).

just a heads up. you don't have to be 'left' to despise a highly despicable individual. your orange chum very much fits the bill!
it's a matter of decency.
I have never admitted to having any chums, Orange, Green Blue or otherwise. it's a matter of decency.
News programmes and their presenters should be professional and should not be allowing their personal political misgivings influence their relaying of said news. If they can't be professional then they shouldn't be doing the job.

Trump is carrying out actions many people agree with. Make nato pay their way. Deport illegal criminals. Withdraw from WHO
It's only what member countries pay for their own military, so maybe Donald should cut US Military spending to be more in line with other NATO countries, he could spend the excess cash on much needed social services and care for the people, rebuilding devastated areas from fire, floods and hurricanes and rejuvenate run down cities like Detroit. But no, the USA is a mad military machine it would never do anything like that, but if they want to spend that much they can, but we don't have to.FourWheelDrift said:

To be fair, if any recent president was going to do that, it would most likely be Trump. His visit to North Carolina was a positive one, even called out the insurance companies (by name) screwing over residents which is hardly the actions of a guy wedded to big business - but it's early days. Been very relatable to a vast majority of his voters with his policies so far. CoolHands said:

Very little of what he has done so far has anything to do with "making America great again" it's all window dressing.I'm looking to the fallout on tariffs and what deporting immigrants illegal or otherwise will mean to the cost of product to those who are struggling to make ends meet today.
A simple example is the cost of packaged beer and cigarettes, most of the aluminium in the US does or at least did come from Canada, put a price on that and the foil in cigarette packs and beer cans goes up.
Deport all the field and building labourers who were working at less than the minimum wage, suddenly produce doesn't get picked, bricks don't get laid or the price goes up by a large margin if US citizens are prepared to do the work.
The only way to force locals into menial underpaid labour is to remove all social security benefits and suddenly the dribbling, toothless Billy Bob who thought Trump was a saviour will have different plans come November 2026 if not before when he drags his weapon off the rack and knocks his local representative off.
The rich will get richer and those less well off will be trodden underfoot
Maybe some good will get done amongst the choas. Clearly, the immigration problem needs to be dealt with. It's frustrating that there had been a Biden bill that was bilaterally agreed upon before trump stepped in and effectively ordered it scuppered. trump required the issue for his election campaign, and he got elected, so that clearly worked.
The immigrant situation is not straightforward, as anyone will know who spends time in the US. Immigrants do much of the gardening, (they call it 'yard work' there) paint the houses and pick the crops, amongst much, much else. Simply heavy-handedly sending them away, in many cases to countries they have not been to in decades, would be damaging to the US as well as inhumane to those individuals. And it's worth bearing in mind that immigrants commit fewer crimes than US citizens.

One of my favourite things is Left leaning types/Democrats championing what amounts to slave labour when complaining about the impact of illegal immigrants getting deported on their f
king crop picking.
"Oh no, who will pick my crops now that I can't pay some illegal guy $2.00 per hour" - I get that paying your workers a fair wage (at least federal minimum) has the potential to be inflationary but jesus christ anything less shouldn't be happening in a developed country let alone the "greatest" country on earth(tm)!

This isn't a 'left-leaning' thing. The situation in the US with immigrants is complicated, and requires someone a lot brighter than donald to deal with it, IMO.

As far as the US being 'the greatest country on earth' goes, that is just something they get told from early childhood and seem to genuinely believe. It's far from the truth. The US is, in many ways, a disaster.

The policies might be relatable but the consequences of many of them won't be.Here in Australia we had an import tariff of 60% on cars made overseas to protect the local industry and from 1988 they were reduced by 2.5% per year until they reached 15% in 2000, to be further reduced in 2005 and 2010 and completely removed in 2015 by the then conservative government
"If they don't like it they can go" and they did.
The intention was to make the local industry more efficient and build better cars which to some extent they did, but the cars in general were inferior to those coming in from overseas and people were prepared to pay that bit extra for a car for Japan for example that was more efficient, had more inclusions, was better built and had a longer warranty.
It did make cars cheaper overall but inflation has done a lot to lift all prices.
Our PM back in COVID days demanded investigations into Wuhan, it was a lot of hairy chested shouting and as a result China put a 200% tariff on wine and lobsters and banned certain meat imports thus screwing those lines of business, this will be China's response to Trump tariffs.
US made products will still be more expensive and the people will still want products that are a) better made and b) possibly only slightly dearer than the local product.
Every company in the world has heavy investments in their IT infrastructure and almost 100% of it is manufactured in China with a few other Asian countries thrown into the mix.
Trump is a corksoaker of the highest order and his ignorance and hubris will be his undoing

On reflection you are likely right that it's not solely a left thing, it just boggles my mind that people could be all about locking in these immigrants to a life of sAs far as the US being 'the greatest country on earth' goes, that is just something they get told from early childhood and seem to genuinely believe. Yeah re:the greatest country thing, I put it in quotes as I tend to agree with you - I think the country is just too big to have any sort of equitable distribution of wealth, social standards, law and order or even care for those less fortunate. JD Vance grew up dirt poor with an addict for a mother in one of these forgotten about areas (Appalachia, as you know) and one thing I'd like to see in the next 4 years is at least a good go at dealing with the issues in those sorts of areas.
Modern western governments tend to concentrate on the cities or "battleground" areas when deciding policy and directing resouces to secure future votes, flyover states remain just that, flown over. I hope perhaps we will see a change.
Won't hold my breath!
