Ship building is the latest hammer being thrown around.

Not so much that MAGA includes shipbuilding (because they can't, are stupidly expensive and st at it) but to boycott / tarriff any ship build in China calling in to USA, and then the worldwide bullying:

"U.S. to engage partners, allies to impose similar measures or risk U.S. retaliation"

Simple answer to that. Dock and unload in Canada / Mexico and transport the goods over the border that way. Or do the really sensible thing and stop trading with the US altogether.

It is not about the landing of vessels I am talking of, in the USA.

The bullying of the 'partners, allies' to do the same,

The USA have lon term been a s hipping island with the advent of the Jones Act. Stupid protectionism.

Now it is telling the rest of the world (its partner and allies) to adjust their approaches and hence economics too.

Umm, is that the Canada / Mexico undergoing a bumming currently on Tarriffs that you are thinking about.?

How would it apply to anything that does not fit in a container or of a flatbed / train ?

"Non tariff barriers" is a bit of a catch-all though.

Without that the US is very similar to the UK and AUS.

It was intended to be somewhat tongue in cheek wink

I don't believe that Canada or Mexico are currently being tariffed on anything other that metal at the moment. Although that could change within the next 15 seconds hehe

We currently operate with a large surplus in eggs (8 chickens 2 people) but not sending any to the US on principle.

Looking at egg prices in the US I suspect you've missed that particular boat.

They're looking at home and European produced armaments from what I understand. Even looking at VW"s spare capacity to produce tanks or some such.
And the German GDP to debt is one of the lowest @ 60%, so in theory money is not an issue.

Presumably American citizens must be noticing the same thing with their pensions right now, expect everything to kick off bigly style any moment now
Yes and no. Personally, mine is doing OK. A small modest rise over the last month, but it did dip quite a bit. I try to look at the percentage rather than the actual money as it gets frightening!

I have a pretty conservative portfolio to manage this risk, but that doesnt mean that I am free from anything, but I have at least tried to minimize things. Some people will see heavy drops though, so its all over the place.

As for other Americans? Thats a great question. We are unlikely to see an impact for a while. Things go up and down, so most are in this for the medium term at least. If the market is screwed in summer and then winter, there will be a lot of people extremely angry. And for those on fixed income from their 401K for example, later in the year will be the big impact when they are getting less and less money per month. There is time for things to stabilize, but the Trump administration needs to bring confidence back to the market, not cause further disruption and chaos.

Hold on to your hats, this might be a bumpy ride!

While small, this could be just the start:

If they do call off the contract, where would they go? China and Russia are off the cards, which leaves only a few left - France? South Korea? Re-furb the F-16's for a few more years? Who knows. But messing around like this not a good idea. But hey, Gulf of America, right? Winning!

Here we are in the mid ‘20s and Germany are rearming. What could possibly go wrong?

What allies? He's spent the last two months alienating all US allies with his tiny hand energy. He's insane, the US-flagged tanker that got rammed off the Humber was built in China, so he's going to raise the cost of everything and expect everyone else to jump off the same cliff of stupidity?

Probably that, wait for the next US president and hope they're sane. There aren't really any alternatives for a small NATO state that wants a 5th gen aircraft; F18 is old and american and Gripen while good is pricy and both are very much not 5th gen. Neither is Rafale.
