king outrageous. They probably want to upgrade the hotel rooms for boat people.
Aside from the fact that there have been large reductions in these costs as claims are being processed faster and numbers drop, they aren’t funded by council tax.

When does it end? I feel considerably poorer than I did a few years ago. Everything is increasing a huge amount, more than my wages have done. Council tax, Gas, mortgage ,electric, internet, food etc etc. It's just more money after more money going out.
I posted on another thread but I'm 42 working in the NHS, a reasonable job yet I have nothing left at the end of the month. I feel like a teenager who empties their bank account each month. No real chance of savings etc. No flash holidays. Old cars etc. Yeah we're better than a lot, but compared to how my parents were at a similar age I feel like an absolute failure.
I agree with everything you said especially the failure part. It’s constantly on my mind, and I’m feeling the squeeze as I haven’t had a pay rise since 2015 - Though that is potentially changing as I’m going self employed and this first year is likely less with hopefully better subsequent years.I posted on another thread but I'm 42 working in the NHS, a reasonable job yet I have nothing left at the end of the month. But we’re better off than many. I watched the Michael Sheen doc last night where he paid off 900 people’s debt in Port Talbot. That’s just over £1100 each…. It was timely to remind myself that I am all ok, as I could cope with a hefty surprise bill tomorrow. I’d grumble, but I’d not require a loan.
Those people who had to take ‘only’ a £1100 loan to just survive, shows how hard up people actually are.
Our CT bill goes up by 10% this year here in Aberdeenshire. BT have just increased by 6.4%, my house insurance has gone up 24%, car insurance up 6%. Not to mention if we use trades, car repairs, or how much food has gone up, or anything you dare to do to enjoy life.
You’re right - where does this end. My guess, it doesn’t and the ride will just get much bumpier.
Increase in council tax yet bins to be put on a three weekly cycle (and boy are you in trouble if your collection falls over Christmas or bank holidays). More money for less services
This is not an improvement and seems the direction is only down. Need real change at all levels of government.

5% increase for us, taking us to almost £3,800 a year.
That's mental! The CT has doubled since we moved in in 2017, it was already over what it should have been then. There is no pt appealing or fighting the system, it is what it is. My family has also made extensive use of the health care facilities in the county in that time, so yeah, it is what it is and I don’t overly resent paying it.
I know, raving right winger me eh?

Only around 60% of households pay the full CT. I bet it's way less in some areas.
So is this why no one complains about it? Nearly half the population don't have to pay?Seems all very mysterious. I want to get to the bottom of it, if there's a way to not have to pay, or pay less, I want to know.

County council have a 5% increase cap imposed by government (although some have got agreement to go above this).
There is no limit on the percentage increase that can be implemented by Parish Councils.
So the country councils have been devolving their powers and services to parish councils.
Smoke and mirrors
Somerset Council has raised CT by 7.49 % however my local town council has voted in a 39% increase this year, last year was 107% riseThere is no limit on the percentage increase that can be implemented by Parish Councils.

I am lucky I live on my own so can get a discount but this years bill will mean for me that it has basically doubled in the time I have been here

I do live alone and it's still crazy money. Just wondering how much, or more specifically, how little you need to be earning in order to be exempt. I'm self-employed so can throttle earnings as a protest until this lot are voted out.
Are you getting the 25% discount? https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-council-tax-discountI suppose you could throttle earnings and spend all your savings, then you might qualify for additional discounts, but that varies based on each region. My local council's website says:-
"In general, the lower your income the more the bill can be reduced by Local Council Tax Support. From 1st April 2015 everyone of working age will have to pay at least 20% of their bill."
The other option is go into full time education at college or university, then you wouldn't have to pay council tax..
