I have been sickened to learn how the US government has treated the rescue workers since 9/11.
Many of these were just volunteers off the street who have since developed horrific conditions due to being exposed to the dust and the mental strain it has caused .

Its not like in the UK where they would get free medical support and cheap prescriptions to make them better / make life more bearable. Due to the private medical system in the US many people (even ones with insurance) are left with crippling medical bills. Many of these people affected have been unable to work due to their conditions, in the US no work equals no medical insurance, which someone who in unemployed would be unlikely to afford.

It has to make you think. If national security is such a big deal why did the US spend billions stirring up a hornets nest in (totally innocent) Iraq while letting their own nationals in NY die a horrible lingering death in poverty. So much for protecting the US citizen.

When Bush etc. demonstrate such a greater interest in declaring war on random countries and ignore their own peoples suffering so completely one has to wonder how pure their motives are and indeed - if anything they say is true. They visit the site, give the speeches to the cameras, and leave the victims to die without lifting a finger. They certainly aren't in it for the average american.

If you add the wars and the banking scams together you really get a sense of where their true priorities lie, as usual actions speak louder than weasel words and blatant lying. Here you need no conspiracy theory about a man on a hill or an inside job: you just look at what they do.

Stop sounding like an idiot. To begin with , it really is not the "US Government's" problem, it should be the New York government's problem. As for healthcare, the majority of workers were city employees and have great healthcare benefits. Volunteers are usually the well to do or retired people, they also have healthcare. The "poor" usually are not the ones volunteering. If they are, then they too also have free healthcare that we all pay for through their state government also supplimented by federal medicaid.

"Oh My God, we've just suffered a terrible tragedy that we were never prepared for. We must unite and help in any way we can"

"You must be joking, I want proper training and the correct kit before I go anywhere near that lot!"

"What!? But thousands are dead, and even more are injured! We need to try and rescue as many people as we can!"

"Not on your nelly, I've no idea what that dust might do to me!"

"There's no time for training, and we can't possibly supply the right equipment to everyone. The scale of this event is enormous!"

"Well, good luck to you then, I'm off to make a cuppa and watch the news"

"People are trapped and dying, can't you put them first?"

Wanders off..."Tut, I bet there's not a Starbucks open for miles round here"

Not quite the issue. The first responders went directly into action. While the response was going on, their leadership asked for an analysis of the debris to determine if certain equipment would be needed for prolonged exposure in the extended mission. They were told that none was neccessary. Reasonable IMO.

You're having a laugh.

The "free" medical support(as good as it was)certainly didn't make my Father's death from asbestosis "bearable". It was thorougly unpleasant seeing a man who was over 6 feet tall literally waste away in front of us and sheer bloody agony for him.

He also got the sqaure root of feck all when the savings ran out too, other than whatever Statutory sick pay was at the time.

Anyone who worked on the WTC site deserves every cent they can get if they're suffering because of it.

100% Agree. The owners of the building (forget any conspiracy) made plenty of cash out of this event, to hold back on compo claims is just sick.

This comp - it'S $657 million, no?

Less than a billion. Why, at a time when they have spunked billions on war, billions shoring up the financial sector, etc etc would they even waste the legal fees to quibble this.

How odd.

I'm sure this retarded comment has some point, the post is about how NO help is being given to people who now have asbestosis etc. as a direct result of their work and help.
The lack of analysis and/or precautionary breathing masks when a building known to contain tonnes of fire retardent asbestos cladding collapses into a pile of dust is a valid pointer to who may need to pay their compensation - i.e. the city.

TBH the federal government should had stepped up for what they claim is an 'act of terror', as (conspiracy or no) it's their responsibility and failure to prevent events like that.

So in view of federal failures and city failures you still want the little guy who helped out on the ground to pay? With his wallet as well as his health and 20+ years of his life? Nice. If you ever contract it or know someone who does you may start to see things rather more clearly.

I am surprised there was Asbestos it the dust, banned surely, or was it not when they were built.

Anyway they are entitled to compensation, same as you would be if you inhaled asbestos at work.

smile
towers wer built from 1965 onwards
asbestos wasn't banned in alot of the countries until the '80's
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asbestos

Asbestos is "safe" until you disturb it
"Over 1000 tons of asbestos is thought to have been released into the air during the destruction of the Twin Towers "
Yup, the whole complex was in need of some serious updating, would have cost a fortune!

hehe

I do wonder if some posters are just bots programmed with a canned reply of disgust when a topic is posted with certain keywords.
