Clearly this only applies if you have a mortgage and the rate is higher than 2% ish and you can port it.
And the admin fees, mortgage closure fees, legal fees, valuation fees and rate delta over the life of the mortgage don't completely swamp the tiny difference in interest rates on your measly savings (well mine are measly)...

Correct.

I've just come to the end of an intro rate on a savings account, can't find anything that will touch 3% other than Santander that I can meet the criteria for (regular payments in plus DDs).
Natinwide Direct offer 5% upto 5k.

I fill that up then put everything else into Santander.

I quit FD, they were good at answering the phone then i'd go on hold to speak to the right person. Plus their interest rates were rubbish. They made me jump through hoops for a mortgage quotation, first saying they wouldn't lend to me, then i had to speak to someone better informed who then said they would, then they limited my borrowing to just short of what i wanted. Got everything i wanted from Nationwide in the end, no hassle. Found FD a little bit stuck up and unable to decipher real world situations, working offshore with different than normal circumstances just puzzled them and i would dread to think how my mortgage application would have went if the quote was anything to go by!
